We had just one day (on a cruise trip) and I read recommendations beforehand and booked with Ricky. Since we enjoy hiking, Ricky agreed to switch the Rainbow falls with the Akaka falls (that takes a 30-minute hike to get to). We also jumped at the chance for a small walk in the volcano park (I think it was under 0.5 mile) to the Thurston lava tube, that saved Ricky $25 on the entrance fee, so this was a win-win situation.

We turned out to be Ricky's only couple for the day, so he asked us where we would like to spend more or less time. We covered everything and he told us so many things about the Islands, the volcanoes, life in Hawaii and much more.

The price was very reasonable, and I am very glad we didn't go for the ship's bus tours.

We were very happy with our tour of Hilo with Ricky. Ricky loves his Island home and it shows. He is very knowledgable and answered all our questions. We never felt rushed and covered a lot of ground during our tour. Being on a cruise we only had one day in Hilo but we felt we were able to get a great taste of the Island because we chose Ricky's tour. Plus the tour was an excellent value.

After seeing recommendations on Cruise Critic, we booked a tour for two during our cruise stop in Hilo. The night before we got to the port, two more in our party decided to do the tour with us. Ricky was SO quick to respond to my e-mail request.

Ricky is such a funny, accommodating and knowledgeable guide. Part of the chain of craters drive was closed but he made up for that with different stops that I feel were better. He is so anxious to make sure that everyone has a good, memorable tour. If we go back to Hilo, we will definitely call him for a private tour.

Our family of 10 took a day tour from the Hilo airport (we flew over from HNL) and despite a drizzly day everyone agreed it was a fantastic day. Ricky was accommodating to our wishes in every respect. Our grandchildren wanted to walk on the lava fields. So he drove us all the way to the end of the Chain of Craters road where we saw the newly formed lava arch over the
sea cliffs, where the lava flowed over the highway, and MILES of all types of lava formations.
It was the highlight of our day and we thank Ricky for his willingness to "go the extra Mile".

A friend arranged the trip with Ricky and he assured her that there would only be 6 people in our tour. When we arrived in Hilo we were met by a 15 person van with 3 rows of seats behind the driver and front passenger. Van totally filled up with people in all rows. Some people were large and had to crawl behind two rows of seats to sit in the very back next to back windows. It was so uncomfortable and difficult to get in and out of the van for the people in the back two rows that after the nut farm, the first falls and the volcano no one wanted to get out again at the lava flow or shopping. Some decided not to get out at Black Sand beach. Just too hard. He apologized and said that he didn't know that many people were scheduled but I noticed another van the same size at the port with his company logo on it, so he knew. I wasn't even in the very back row but I was miserable. At least you can get on and off a bus without crawling in and out. We were told to bring our lunch and some did but other who had fruit confiscated getting off the ship had nothing so we never stopped for lunch. I stood outside the van and ate my sandwich at one the stops. Will never do that again.
