My wife and I had a great time with Jim and Pretty doing the HVNP tour with Bike Volcano. The scenery was spectacular and impressive.

The bike ride was relaxing and not strenuous at all. Several stops were made to point out facts and information about the volcanoes and the histories of different eruptions. Jim was a terrific guide and knew so much about the plants and animals. He was the perfect guide for this adventure. Pretty made sure all the gear was in order and passed along some of her own stories and information that brought the Hawaiian culture and history surrounding the volcanoes to life.

Can't recommend it enough- great way to see HVNP and its highlights in a condensed amount of time. Thanks Bike Volcano!

My husband and two daughters joined me on a wonderful adventure in Hilo with Nani and Brandon. We learned so much about this beautiful island from the student (Brandon) and our native (Nani) ... Having both of their perspectives was invaluable and entertaining. We felt completely at ease with our tour and the service we received from both ... The tour and our guides will provide long term memories ... Only regret was that we did not get a picture with our amazing guides ... Aloha!

This trip was more of a nature wall.

The time spent on an actual bike was minimal (like 20 - 25%). Most of our time (75-80%) was spent discussing the flora and fauna and history of the Big Island, looking at the crater, and eating our snack (granola bar and choice of soda).

I don't mean to be negative. The guide was a very nice man; it was a nice experience. But before spending your money on what you think is a fun bike adventure, you should know it is minimal biking.

The "bike ride" was from parking lot to parking lot, with much discussion at each stop.
My 16-year-old twins WALKED the route in slightly less time than we spent on our "bike" tour. (They caught up to us at each parking lot.)

Bike Volcano provides GUIDED BICYCLE TOURS of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. You can choose between a Full Day Bike Tour (10am to 3pm,15 miles biking) and Half Day Bike Tour (10am to 1pm or 1pm to 4pm, 8.5 miles biking).

These bicycle tour courses take place on off road trails and paved roads. All cyclists are invited to bike at their own pace then meet up at the various historical sites where our Interpretive Guide will explain the cultural significance, history, and geology of the site. The bicycles will be parked in the designated parking area but by no means are these bicycle courses a tour of the parking lot as the reviewer incorrectly stated.

Your guide will set the pace of the group with the fastest cyclists and our van follows the last cyclist. On both the Half Day and Full Day Bike Tour you will bike around the crater rim of one of the most active volcanoes in the world, Kilauea. You will witness the historic summit crater eruption, see incredibly huge craters, bike through a native Hawaiian Fern rain forests, stand next to steaming hot vents, hike through a lava tube, and see dynamic lava formations.

Experiencing the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park by bike is absolutely the most unique and exciting ride anywhere on the Big Island of Hawai`i.

We booked the ride in advance of our island visit and were not sure of how our kids would react to the ride. In the words of my 14 year old, loved the tour and the ride and lunch was good to. Brandon our tour guide was great and was very informative, Nani our driver and snack/water/lunch guide was funny and made the trip entertaining with her stories about growing up on the island. She also made sure we were fed and well hydrated. The scenic lunch stop was incredible and the view was breathtaking. Others have said that parts of the tour can be seen by car but you will not gain the knowledge or the home grown Hawaiian warmth without your guides, they made it well worth the trip. We would recommend this tour to anyone looking for a nice bike ride and looking to learn about the islands volcano history.

My husband and I are 60 years old and we thought it would be a fun, exercise-type activity.
I don't think we broke out into a sweat at all. It is scenic to ride, but it is mostly downhill. The guides were nice and the highlight was the Hawaiian guide who gave us some local pidgin language lessons. Time would have been better spent doing the 4 mile roundtrip walk in the caldera and visiting the spots via car that we approached on the bike. You don't really go anywhere different than can be accessed via the car.
