“Nice place”
Reviewed January 3, 2009

Stayed on our first night in the islands. The room we had was very nice although what I thought was a couch from the pictures was actually a love seat. Not usually important, but I gave my daughter the bed which left me with a pallet on the floor. The staff was super nice and even loaned me tools the next morning to make repairs to my rental car (another story). The coffee was good and the breakfast consisted of local fruits and eggs cooked to order. The grounds were beautiful.

I see the complaints here and they all seem to do with the credit card charges. I had no issues, and the staff was great. But its the place itself that makes it what it is. If you found this off a road somewhere it would be a wonder of almost any trip, even one to Hawaii. That you can stay here is icing on a very nice cake.

This B&B should be cheaper by 45 percent. It falls under the category of "milk the tourist".

There is Chinese imitation furniture, but no flair otherwise, no atmosphere, nothing of the sort. The building quality is shoddy - cheap construction. The place seems somewhat unfinished, getting to the car at night is hazardous, due to the lack of outside lighting. You hear every cough from all the rooms, every toilet flush. The building is built in a cheap manner, which is not conducive to its purpose. The website says "it is built as a B&B". If you value your future customers, then build in a way that they can sleep. Rooms are tiny.

I did not find any hospitality there. Do not expect to be greeted. Do not expect to be welcomed.

The toilet in my room had not been flushed when I got there, and I wondered if it had been cleaned. The pillow covers did not cover the pillows - how hygienic is that. Sheets were of terrible quality, and I am not a person looking for luxury. Bed frame is particle board.
Blanket of cheapest quality, as are other furnishings (curtains). No soap/shampoo in dispenser in shower. Why does all this matter? Because the price is much too high. So every comment should be seen in this light.

I do understand people who aspire to make a living in this industry, by going the independent way, such as a B&B. But there is a difference between charging a credit card, and being willing/able to deal with the live guests who show up therafter, and providing them with a service which is in relation to what they pay.

All accommodations in Hilo have received infamously bad reviews, and all seem overpriced regarding these reviews.

I cannot recommend this place either. For less money, you can stay at the Kona coast in a real hotel. For a little more money, I stayed in a resort at the Kona coast, where the room was three times larger, the bathroom was four times larger, there was a very large private balcony with ocean view; due to concrete construction, it was sound proof. There was an onsite restaurant and bar, and the employees did not mind being asked a question, as this is part of their job.

I am writing reviews about only 2 percent of the places I stay in. I am staying in about one hundred hotels of all categories (excluding the very very high high end, and the low low end) per year. This one deserved detailed comment, in my view.

The owners and the staff made us feel at home. They were very friendly and hospitable. The location is fantastic, especially the drive from Hilo through the country. The sounds of the waterfall are very relaxing especially at night. We would definitely stay again.

Booked a 7 nite stay through Expedia for Nov., 2008. Deposit equal to cost of one night was supposed to be charged. Inn immediately charged equivalent of 4 nights' deposit to my credit card. Cancelled the reservation due to change of plans. Inn's policy clearly says there will be a full refund of deposit if cancellation is more than 14 days in advance. We cancelled much farther ahead than that. No refund. Expedia finally had to intervene, and Inn now promises that the refund is on its way. Expedia says the Inn was never supposed to charge such a large deposit. I booked through Expedia because my reservation inquires on the Inn's own web site got no response. All a little odd. Be careful.

This was an amazing place. We stayed in the "Queen" room and had a balcony overlooking both the falls and Hilo. This inn is located up the hills behind Hilo so it's cooler at night (but it also means for a tense drive up the single lane road once it gets dark). The breakfast served was healthy and relaxed. The only down point was that one of the inn's housekeepers had a party while we were there until very late: it was very noisy!

We found this b&b on the web and thought it sounded opluent and lovely. We didn't quite realise how far out of Hilo it is (about 10 miles) - so you definitely need a car to get there! There were problems with our booking (we had a room change twice, then when we got there found we'd been put into a third room, even though our original choice was empty). The room we had was lovely - well maintained and appointed. It was all a little strange though - it wasn't clear who was staff and who was just staying in the house, and breakfast was made for us by a woman who insisted on staying and trying to make conversation with us while we were eating (it would have been much more comfortable to be left alone to make our own). The waterfall and surroundings are beautiful, but this probably isn't enough to make up for the feeling of discomfort we got from the place.
