This is a great waterfall to see with a short hike on a paved trail. It doesn't take long to get there but parking can be a bit of a problem.

As you follow the paved footpath, you'll first see 100-foot Kahuna Falls. Continue to follow the loop around the bend, and you'll discover towering Akaka Falls which plummets 442-feet into a stream-eroded gorge. Beautiful Akaka Falls is perhaps Hawaii Island's most famous waterfall. Easily accessible, this hike takes less than an hour.

Paved walking trail makes this easy to get to and you can actually see two different waterfalls after paying a $7 admission. A must see on the Big island.

This is a quick 20 minutes off the main road, but worth the drive. Not much to see other than the falls - but boy are they impressive! Great photo stop to stretch your legs if you're driving around the island. Take the 4 mile scenic road on the way there from Hilo. There is a small sign, but it is a very cool scenic drive through lush rain forests.

We visited this park during a Pride of America excursion (Crater Hike...a must do!). It is exactly what you imagine a rain forest would look like. It is a short, easy hike (one route is stairs, the opposite route is sort of a ramp/slope). I had just finished a strenuous hike and was leery of doing another but I'm glad I did. It is only about a 10 minute walk from the parking lot to the main falls, but there is so many different things to see (an pictures to take), that you won't notice the walk. You will pass two falls on the way to Akaka Falls, plus a bamboo field and a variety of exotic plants. It is worth the hike.
