“Well worth the drive”
Reviewed September 6, 2013

The falls are very dramatic and an up-close view is available by following a short paved trail. Note there are some steps so the path is not wheelchair accessible. However even the view from the parking area is worth the trip.

“Spectacular waterfall”
Reviewed September 6, 2013

If you are driving the highway north of Hilo, don't miss this spectacular waterfall. The access road takes you 5 miles or more through a small village and some old cane fields. The entrance fee is minimal ($1 per person). There is a $5 charge to park in the lot, but when we were there, there was plenty of parking along the road within a short distance of the entrance to the falls. The vegetation along the trail to the falls is lovely, and there are some great views, but the most magnificent is the view of the 400-foot tall waterfall plunging down a green precipice.

“Read about the fish”
Reviewed September 6, 2013

Two falls with a trail loop between them. We went in the rain which didn't spoil the fun. The high falls is vertical and very tall, but there is a fish that manages to spawn at the top and mature in the sea. If you think salmon are impressive, read about these guys on the sign overlooking the falls themselves.

“Get your workout at the falls”
Reviewed September 5, 2013

This is the most beautiful state park I have ever been to. The falls are just beautiful and absolutely amazing! Seeing all the bamboo and the beautiful flora are just breathtaking! Tourists and visitors, be prepared to pay to visit this park. Free to residents of HI, but well worth the money to maintain the park. Also, be prepared to walk up ALOT of stairs. It's easy going down and a great workout coming back up.

“Breathtaking!”

You go down the circular path and be surprised by the beautiful cascading falls. Lots of local plants and trees along the way.
