This place is simple, its a $1 to get into (don't park in the parking lot, park up the road its free and a minute walk to the entrance) and it's a loop trail, very easy to walk on and plenty of things to see while walking. The waterfalls were beautiful, there were two of them, and was a pleasant walk.

Also to note, stop by the closest fruit stand up the road right before the entrance, best pineapple ive had in my life!

Akaka falls trail is the perfect length for a casual hike and you couldn't ask for better scenery. The waterfall is breath taking no matter how many times you see it. Hawaii is magical in that way.

Worth a stop if you're in the area. Great little trail and views. The trees ar pretty spectacular. Only about a 10 min drive off the main road.

While out exploring the Big Island we stumbled accross this tropical wonderland. It is so different from the Kona desert area. This is a rainforest envoirment for sure. The beauty of the Island called Hawaii is it's diverse climate. This little gem of a park did not disappoint. If you visit bring a light jacket or rain gear because it can be wet. Entry to the park is free, but parking is $5 per car so load it up and it is worth it to park close. Space is limited and many choose to park on the road and walk in. Don't take the loop trail if you have mobility problems and it involves a lot of steps down and back up again.

I always enjoy coming to see the waterfall. If you're a Hawaii resident, you do not have to pay to park or to go see the falls. If you aren't, you only have to pay a $1 to see the falls, I believe. If you're too cheap to pay for parking, it appears you can just park on the road right outside of the gate.

The waterfall is beautiful. I took a number of pictures. The only thing was that there were like a million inch worms all over the handrails and in some of the trees. Some people thought it was neat, but I kind of thought it was gross.

Also, I can't remember exactly what time they open the park, but it was later than I expected. I had to venture over to go see Umaumau Falls and come back because the park was closed when I first arrived.
