Would not recommend this to anyone. When we checked in there was used soap in the tub & shower. The bedspread and room were extremely dusty. Breakfast was self-serve, three doughnuts each day for all the guests (7), bread or bagels. No fruit or hot meal. Was within walking distance of downtown Hilo, but no street lights at night to find your way back. Stayed four nights and not once were we given new clean towels or a new coffee packet in our room.

I loved my stay at Hilltop Legacy. Located at the very top of the hill in Hilo, I could see the ocean and town from the huge picture window in my room. I stayed in the Legacy Suite, which, was quite spacious and had a great private lanai and huge windows. Mr. Lee and his son, Jade were wonderfully warm, accommodating, and helpful hosts. The rooms, house, and grounds were well-cared for and clean. Aside from the huge flat screen television, the quiet and tranquility of the older Hawaiian home made me feel like I was able to step back and experience a more simple and gracious time in Hawaii. Aloha!

The house is still undergoing some remodel and the Sky Room is not finished. We were moved to the suite at no charge and enjoyed our stay very much. Views are great. It is a nice older Hawiianna style home and gives a real taste of Hawaiian lifestyle. No shoes inside. Jade Lee and his father were very friendly and helpful. No air conditioning, but fans and open windows made it very comfortable. We enjoyed the private deck during the evening and even the noisy little coque frogs that have invaded that part of the island. It was a great place to base our volcano visits.

Stopped in Hilo for one night on a trek around the island. Hotels in Hilo are less than modern and we were not impressed by any of the larger options so took a chance on the Hilltop. A great stay with the best service we experienced on the island from Jade and his father.

The house has fantastic views and is on an immaculately maintained garden complete with Macadamia tree (all the nuts you can crack!), horse, and a cat named tiger.

The house is an older home but well maintained. If you want an ultra-modern hotel, this is not the property for you. If you want to stay in a place that feels like home...then you are in luck. The rooms all have large TVs, there is free internet, and a pool table downstairs. Like most homes in hilo there is no air con...but its not a hot location so opening the windows and turning on the fan works fine.

I would have to say that the selection for breakfast could be a bit better with some fresher breads and pastries.

The service really sets this place apart with the owners providing printed directions to late night eats, recommendations on travel routes, a tour of the garden, tips on Hilo, and just great conversation.

Thanks for the great stay and we will be back if we are passing through Hilo again!

Ok first of all the house has no air. And there is no private bathroom. The continental breakfast consisted of weak weak coffe and donuts and grapes...thats it!! The owner and his son are so sweet and were very helpful with our questions. You have to take your shoes off when entering the house. It is a nice location but I am a city girl and I need air in the middle of the summer. All we did was sleep in the room so it wasnt terrible

The house is definitely not as nice as the photos show, the owners are really nice and helpful though and they try their best to make the place as good as possible. The yard is pretty and they have a friendly horse that wanders around the property. This is more like an upgraded hostel, not really a bed and breakfast as the "breakfast" is just donuts and coffee and there isn't really any service that you would expect with a B & B. Free internet and the place is peaceful, but a little run down. Ok to stay in for less than $100 a night if you are passing through.

We highly recommend the Hilltop Legacy. When we got there, the Lees (a father & son team) gave us an upgrade on the room since we were the only occupants that evening, so ended up staying in the Legacy Suite for four nights. The room was really spacious, the bed was large & comfortable (soft but still supportive) but we were really struck by the size of the large flat screen tv in the room (much bigger than the standard). The room also has its own private balcony so that you can sit outside and enjoy the cool evenings. Due to its location on top of a hill, there is not much traffic that goes by and there is decent security as each room has its own lock.

We were in Hilo mainly for business, and I stayed in the room most days so that I could work remotely. Surprisingly, the wireless connection at the hotel was faster than the hotel that we stayed at in Honolulu, and very reliable. I was also able to get online with my laptop outside in the yard as well.

The view from the room is phenomenal, since the hotel is located on a hill. We had a great view of all of Hilo as well as the beautiful yard and the resident horse, who just hangs out in the unfenced backyard happily munching grass all day. The grounds are very well kept, if I didn't see the horse, I would never have known that it was there. The location of the hotel is great, as the downtown area of Hilo was only a mile away...very walkable (although you would be walking up the hill on the way back)!

Jade and his father are truly gracious hosts who have been on the island for a long time and are very knowledgeable about the city. The Hilltop Legacy is in its second year of business, but they have lived in it for decades before that. As such, the custom is to go shoeless indoors. Also, for those who are expecting a hotel with the most modern amenities, this is not the hotel for you as they are still gradually putting in upgrades. This hotel is probably best for those without children since loud noises do travel. However, the hotel is lovingly cared for and very clean. It is such a unique hotel and truly charming. We would definitely go back again!
