Oddly we never met the proprietor and were never told when breakfast was, and thus never had any. We did observe that it existed- though it didn't seem like anything exciting. We stayed in two rooms. Both clean but not attentively decorated or cared for.

The Volcano Room bed was lumpy, but we were so tired we slept fine.
The Sky room was comfortable. It had a through breeze which was important b/c the place has no a/c. Weirdly the kitchen and bathroom are sort of combined and there's no curtains. The view was amazing through. It worked well enough for our needs, but was by no means more than basic. Whole place could do with a refresh, new paint and carpets.

If you're sensitive to noise, bring earplugs, the frogs are noisy.

Location is a mile from downtown Hilo- at the top of the hill. About a 15 minute walk to the Lyman museum (at least on a hot day)

Room Tip: see the review above.

Despite the advertised promise of a full B&B, this facility tried to charge an extra $15 per person for breakfast. The room had a good view of downtown Hilo, but the hosts were never around (we had to call in order to obtain an entry code). The shower offered little pressure and the bed was lumpy. Avoid

We booked through ebookers bed and breakfast for 5 nights. On arrival we were told by the owners father that breakfast had been discontinued.Having paid for 5 we were not pleased. So the next morning we bought breakfast in town. In the evening we met the owner Jade who told us breakfast had been discontinued but as we had booked beforeit was discontinued he would serve us breakfast. This was in November. I write in December and have checked two booking sites and both confirm Hilltop can be booked with breakfast. Not surpring as one of them is bed and breakfast.com!!
So b&B is still being offered. Was it a try on on Hilltops part?Anyway we were not refunded the breakfast we had paid for that was not served.
Apart from that the continental breakfasts that were served were good, tasty and well presented.
Hilltop decor is clean but a little sad and tired. However it is reasonably priced so with breakfast(sorry to Repeat) you cant complain.
Our room was the Sky room and had a small kitchen attached. The shower was in a jacuzzi. So to get to the kitchen and loo you went down two steps. To getinto the shower you went up two more steep steps and thenstepped down about 18 inches into the jaccuzi.Do not switch the overhead light on as it is about a foot away from the shower head.If you are at all unsteady on your feet do not stay in this room. The view is great.
The affair over breakfast was disapponting and marred our stay so until thewebsites and actual delivery coincide we would urge caution or at least seek clarification when booking.

Room Tip: Make sure you are fit enough for you room

We stayed for 3 nights and it is located just about a mile from central Hilo. This B&B provides an at home feeling. The family, dining, and kitchen were spacious and were welcomed to use at any time. Jade and his father were helpful in getting us checked in. My wife and I had the Volcano room which had a separate bathroom and shower just outside the hallway. This setup was good since it was just the two of us. Although we didn't spend to much time here we thought this was a very good resting point during our stay.

My wife and I stayed here on our honeymoon and really enjoyed it. We booked the legacy suite and thought it was a great value. We had a large bedroom and bathroom as well as our own fridge and microwave. We had a great view of the bay and our own private porch. Although it is not ocean side, the value was great. Would definitely recommend it.

Room Tip: Legacy suite is a great value

We stayed here for one night in April in the Legacy Suite. We did not spend much time in the B&B or the room, as we headed to the volcano just after we checked in. It was very nice & quiet, except for the loud frogs at night - but that just adds to the ambiance of the surroundings. The location was OK, but I originally thought we could walk to town more easily. The room was very spacious & comfortable. The view from our deck was amazing - I just wish we'd been able to enjoy it more at the end of the day. We did however enjoy having coffee out on the deck in the morning. But the sun was quite bright in the direction of the view, and made it not quite as enjoyable as we'd have liked. A few comments. There were not good blinds for keeping the sun from waking us up really early. I was pretty surprised to have FOLGERS coffee in the room. Really?! In Kona country?! I'd recommend even a Kona blend over Folgers. It is an old home with old fixtures and decor, and plumbing, but beautiful wood floors & accents. The water took a really long time to get warm, and then went hot & cold for the first few mins before settling down. Breakfast was nothing to write home about, so we skipped it & went to Ken's House of Pancakes! All in all, I'd come back here... as long as they put Kona coffee out! ;-)

We stayed at hilltop legacy for one night. What you need to remember about staying here is that this a a family home with rooms available for guests. It's not a hotel.
The rooms were comfortable with a huge tv screen and all amenities available.
The check in process was easy and hassle free, we spent very little time at the room as we left our bags for the day whilst on a tour and didn't get back to the room until 9pm leaving again the following morning.
Breakfast was a nice offering of toast, bagels, croissants, cereal and porridge as well as fruit.
I did find the rooms and walls to be a little grotty, this would be easily fixed with a quick scrub.
