“Excellent View and Cozy Rooms from Hilo Bay Room”
Reviewed March 18, 2012

We arrived after the normal check- in time and were greeted by Jade. He was very helpful and courteous.

The property is a little difficult to find at night, so get directions before hand. We only stayed one night but wish we had stayed longer.

The breakfast was simple but delicious.

If you will be arriving after 6 pm be sure to phone ahead.

Room Tip: Hilo Bay Room is cozy and has views of downtown Hilo Bay. Nice breezes come in from the bay.

We visited the Hilltop Legacy in Nov 09 and had a wonderful time there. Even though they renovated the place, Jade and his dad, made it as comfortable as possible for us!
When we missed dinner the first night they brought us dessert to the room, what we haven't expected. What a nice gesture!
We stayed there over Thanksgiving, and they held a wonderful Thanksgiving Dinner for us and the other guest.
It was like a big family dinner and we all enjoyed it.
Thanks for the great time!

We had the Legacy Suite - spacious, ample storage, comfortable, with great view of Hilo Bay and town from room and large lanai. Jade, our host, could not have been more courteous or helpful. The negative reviews I've read here are just a bunch of whining - the place was, in every way, as advertised and then some. I do wish breakfast had more options, as I prefer hot breakfast to continental. But it was all they said it would be, and there was always plenty to eat (croissants, muffins, toast, papaya, oatmeal, and more. I would certainly stay here again - fine value for the price we paid.

After visiting the Hilltop Legacy website (very nice website) i decided to book my flight from Oahu to Hilo and stay at the Hilltop Legacy. I first spoke to jade on the phone and he was very helpful, even offering to pick me up from the airport .when i arrived at the b&b i knew i had made the right decision booking the sky room.
Jade lee and his father demonstrated excellent customer service and hospitality during my one week stay in Hilo. Their hospitality and service far outdoes the service you get at the Hilo Hawaiian. I felt more like family towards the end of my trip then i did a guest in their home. Although their b&b is currently going through renovations, the three story house is very well kept and very clean. the back yard is very large and is home to vish their friendly horse. If you hang around out side in any of the two out door patios you might run into tiger the cat, who might just be the friendliest cat alive.
the breakfast is served at 8am, it is a continental breakfast. they served freshly baked doughnuts, oatmeal, coffee, juice, bagels, and on occasion they served fresh fruit bought from the local farmers market that very morning along with the doughnuts.
the view from the b&b is superb. it over looks the whole town of Hilo and Bayfront area.
the room i stayed in had a jacuzzi, which was very nice. the bed was a double and was very comfortable.the large flat screen tv complemented the room nicely. there were also a mini stove top and microwave.Jade informed me that in case i wanted to cook my own food there was a sack'n save right down the road from the b&b, about a 5 minute walk.
the nights at the Hilltop Legacy are quiet. I have to say that staying there at the hilltop legacy felt like i was staying at my best friends house because they treated me very good. I felt that staying at the Hilltop Legacy allowed me to experience the old town of Hilo to the fullest and Jade Lee and his father made that possible for me.
i am definitely staying there again the next time i visit Hilo. anyone else considering to stay at the Hilltop Legacy should stop considering and book a room now. you will not regret it.

Their website is a top quality production, so I anticipated the same level of detail in the care of their rooms. Sorry, not so.
It is custom to be barefoot in the houses of Hawaii. They offer various slippers for your use in the house. The central stair had a huge window, no screen on the other side of the louvers. The rug going up the stairs is faded and has stretched out.
The "continental" breakfast had no protein offering. Just a bowl of hard boiled eggs would be helpful for those of us who balance carbs with protein. Sweet doughnuts or toast were the choices. The coffee was strong the mornings I had it. Unfortunately, most of the mugs have deep cracks in them, so what bacteria lurks in them, I don't want to know. Also the back of the chairs, past the pads, were filthy with dust and whatever else from prior occupants. Creeped me out. Also, there's not enough power to handle all the items on the sideboard. An extension cord with every outlet completely filled with a plug is a bit scary to this electrical engineer's child.
I was in the smallest room, with the shower, toilet and sink just off the closet side. This area has obviously been added on, and in as compact manner as possible. The paint around the shower stall is incomplete. The light fixtures in the area are all bare bulb with a string to turn on. The shower head did not have enough pressure to wash my hair clean of soap. Took a long time for the hot water to come up. There is no light above the sink. Needed one more towel rack. Mysteriously, a small soap dispenser appeared after my 2nd night there, along with a few new towels. I had not asked for room service. The bed also had been made better than I had left it.
There was a small in-room coffee pot but no coffee to put in it. A small microwave sat on top of a very small fridge.
The TV was appropriate for the size of room, cable connection good. There is dust which is starting to mold under the TV. Get a hand under there! Internet connection in room was WiFi and always read "Low". The power strip needs to be shifted to one where the access were horizontal plugs, not vertical.
Bed was a double and comfortable. No place to put the decorative pillows but on the floor. No shelf in the closet. The bedside lampshade had not been dusted for a very long time. There was some small teeny bugs crawling around the bedside table. Not ants. Not sure what they were. Being that I live in the islands, I'm used to bugs but these were new to me.
The curtains did not go all the way across the windows when you closed them at night. They met in the middle, but then the sides were slightly open. If you want to sleep in with a darkened room, this is not for you.
The weirdest thing for me was the Christmas tree and wreaths still decorating the house. The central stair had a big tree still up and lit. There was a light display of a sleigh and reindeer in the garden. This was long after the Christmas holiday.
There were cobwebs over the front door which had collected much dark dust. The porch off the big suite was not painted on the outside. Details, guys! Details!
This house so needs help from a Japanese housekeeper, it is not funny.
Would not stay there again.
