“Any easy walk”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 12, 2011

After eating so much good food in Hilo, we really needed to get the foot mobile running. Walking to Coconut Island was just the trick and it's free. Who could ask for anything more? Thank you Hilo!

“Walk around in 5 min and you're done”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 20, 2011

OK this is just something if you're staying at the hotels on Banyan Drive and are right in the area. It takes like 5 min to walk around - the only thing of note is a tree with markings on the tsunamis of prior years. Otherwise, it's more of local hangout, esp. for local families/teens in the area.

“Blast for kids”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 13, 2011

We are staying at the Hilo Hawaiian and this is located right behind the hotel. My kids have spend hours jumping off of ruins into the harbor. It is nicely laid out for a tiny place, and has a great view of the harbor.

“Beautiful little island of Mokuola...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 8, 2011

This little island is such a great little spot for everyone to enjoy. This is NOT an amusement park, nothing flashy here! Just a nice park setting on a little island full of history! The Hawaiian name of it is Mokuola, if you have an opportunity before visiting you should read about the legend of demi-god Maui and his attempt to pull the islands together- this is why Mokuola is situated where it is according to Hawaiian folklore.
There is also a bit of history from WWII, the "towers" was once used by sailors to train on how to abandon ship. You'll find kids & adults jumping off for fun into the chilly waters! Also a bit of tsunami and town history of what used to be in the area before the 1946 tsunami.
You can enjoy the day picnicking with you family, bbqing, fishing, swimming, kayaking or paddleboarding. You can spend just a few moments there taking a nice walk through or spend most of the day cruising. It's just a great place to relax.
