Beautiful waterfall. Probably one of the biggest ones I saw while we were in Hawaii. It can get very busy. Beautiful gardens too.

Hilo’s Rainbow Falls without the rainbow is still a magical sight and an easy little hike. The walk to the top of the overlook is only a few minutes and the views are marvellous. The river just above the falls is a bit reminiscent of the river valley in the movie “Bridge on the River Kwai”. Beyond the falls is a glade of banyan trees worth exploring. Although parking is at a premium, the best feature of the site is that it is free.
If you've come this far you might as well see Rainbow Falls. The site is well kept and has excellent access, although the upper levels require reasonable footwear and conditioning to ascend and descend. The little hike up is worth the extra time and effort.
The time we visited there was not a rainbow. I heard several people explaining why to their companions, mostly made little sense. I suspect that the water level was a bit low and, as a result, the mist was not rising very high, combined with the position of the sun - no rainbow.
If you have come all the way to Hilo you might as well go and check out Rainbow Falls. The Hpooa On - Hoppa Off group located at the port is the best way, in my opinion, to see the sights in Hilo.
Beautiful waterfall. We were lucky to see the rainbows. There's some spectacular trees nearby to explore as well. Best thing about this place is that it's only a 20 metre walk from the car. Easiest falls to see anywhere in Hawaii.
A relaxing spot to walk around. Definitely need to climb to the top of the falls on the staircase to the left. Then go into the woods to see a couple of massive banyan trees... This is a must see.
This trip to Rainbow Falls is a quick one from Hilo and the falls are easy to rind. Beautiful scenery, and wonderful for budding or professional photographers. Later in the afternoon, it is not as hot and just standing there, viewing these magnificant falls provides the end to a wonderful day in Hilo. Loved it.
