“Best Meal of our Trip”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 26, 2009

We were on the Big Island for 8 days & visited Hawi on next to late day. Several locals told us to try Sushi Rock and not the other spots. We were greeted by Peter Pomeranze (17 years on the island) & we immediately felt at home. He showed us the menu and provided the incredible luncheon specials. You think the restaurant caters to the lovers of fish! We were wrong.
My wife had a Bistro Roll of Sushi and the portions were perfect and the two cold beers were a home run! Our two daughters ordered a safe Caesar salad topped with teriyaki chicken. The oldest daughter is not a chicken fan and she turned around for the bar and told us “this is the best chicken I have ever had!” We live in Atlanta and we have a lot of “5” steak houses to chose from every day. Peter explained that his beef tenderloin was grass fed. My mixed green salad topped with this beef was a grand slam.
We finished the meal with two local deserts – Raspberry Lilikoi Summer Cake and MacNut Pie. Awesome!
If you are looking for a great meal, a cordial atmosphere and exceptional prices for the Big Island – Sushi Rocks is worth the drive.

“Creative and Delicious”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 13, 2009

My party of 8 arrived starving and were immediately seated and food was brought for the two younger kids in the group right away. The grown ups feasted on a combination of special rolls and menu rolls. All were delightful with some surprise ingredients like macadamia nuts and apples. Peter, the owner, waited on our table and took great care of us. What a memorable meal!

“Tasty treats and potent drinks”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 1, 2009

Having through Hawi many times and never to Sushi Rock, it was time this trip. Boy, were we upset at what we've been missing!
The hot pepper infused vodka martini was an amazing way to start off the dinner, which was super tasty even though I barely recall what we ate, perhaps due to the martini, but perhaps also due to the fact that we decided to eat based upon the chef's recommendations and got a fantastic assortment of rolls that were incredibly reasonably priced as well as some truly unique and delicious combination of flavors that used local Hawaiian flavors in wonderful ways.
The service was friendly and the ambiance was everything we were hoping for and more. And oh yeah, compared to other island restaurants of similar caliber, it was very well-priced. We'll be back!

“Innovative sushi, fresh, local ingredients”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 12, 2009

My husband and I came here on a friend's recommendation. I was very impressed with the imaginative types of rolls and the fact that much of the menu was based on whatever the fresh catch was of the day. I also enjoyed some fresh wasabi from locally-grown horseradish, which was quite a treat.

The only disappointment we had was that there wasn't much in the way of non-sushi on the menu, and my husband isn't much of a sushi-eater. Two or three choices of noodle dishes was not quite enough, in our opinion...but the place is called Sushi Rock, so it's not like they're specializing in things not sushi.

“OMG the best Sushi”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 21, 2009

My boyfrind and I were just in Hawaii. We bought the Lonely Planet's Hawaii edition which suggested Sushi Rock in Hawi. The sushi rolls are delicious with local fresh ingredients from ahi tuna to sweet papaya. We ended up going twice!
