This restaurant is in the tiny town of Hawi which is out of the way of the main attractions in the island. We had a great lunch after a wonderful bike ride from Waimea. The place is very authentic and although popular with tourists, there's a homey vibe. Food is great.

That 'not review' is what can be bad about Trip Advisor. You're missing out if you don't give this place a try. We found the food, service, atmosphere, music, AND the owner to be perfectly delightful. We found prices to be fair & certainly not resort priced!

This place was an awesome experience for us. We had a great lunch & went back for a great dinner. At lunch we had perfectly prepared fresh Ono caught locally. Fruit, vegetables & meats are also as local as possible.

Staff were warm, friendly & welcoming. The owner was a true character & we loved it. She was very direct, efficient & quick with hilarious comments. She even took the time to stop by to let me know that the bartender had over poured me on my Ketle One martini & she HATES when that happens.!

Relax, have a nice drive & enjoy some local food & color @ Bamboo in Hawi.

Hawi is a quaint little town an hour or so north of Kona. We drive up there every year. Last year due to reviews on trip advisor decided to try the Bamboo Inn. Loved it, so back again this year. The service is great, we go for lunch. Their fresh fish is cooked absolutely perfect. The pot stickers is one of our favs and not to be missed. When asked if you want passion tea, say yes! We get the pot sticker, split the fish sandwich to save room for dessert. We share the trio, which is a small serving of their top three desserts. Perfect! They offer a lot of healthy Thai choices, but have a nice menu. If going for lunch, go before noon, get reservations for dinner.

Bamboo sets the tone for friendliness on the Big Island. The Asian inspired menu offers one a chance to experiment with rice noodles and seafood. The owner was working the floor going from table to table. Service is quick and courteous. Try the local ice cream either there or across the street.

According to my travel book Bamboo is somewhat of an institution in Hawi and essentially can be credited for putting Hawi dining on the map. The service here is fantastic and the alcoholic drinks will definitely surpass your expectations. Try the very fresh and perfect on a hot day lilli mojito or my wife's "greatest pina coloda ever", the Pina Kohala. One of the entrees we ordered, the coconut crusted chicken, which was essentially chicken and vegetables in a light but flavourful coconut broth/sauce was delicious and organic - easily one of the best dishes we've had during our stay in Hawaii. We recommend stopping here after a morning at nearby Pololu beach and following the return hike back up the hill because by then you will be famished and deserve a good meal. Two drinks, two pupus (appetizers) and an entree was $70 incl tip.
