“Go for the view... and the pie!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 24, 2009

We stopped in the Coffee Shack after getting some local advice on a place for lunch. The view was fantastic from the lanai! The breakfast specials were still available but we went for the sandwiches on the specialty breads. Very friendly server and did I mention the view? The topper though is the Macadamia nut pie!!! Wow!!! If you have a sweet tooth, this alone is worth a stop at the Coffee Shack.

“Worth it just for the magnificent view”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 1, 2009

We dined at this spot twice for lunch. The sandwiches are really good. The veggie pizza was good but the hawaiian ham pizza on our second trip wasn't very good. It was a chilly afternoon and it was just too cool to sit out on the patio so we headed for the backroom which was indoors. We were told that they were closing the room for cleaning but we pleaded our case to the waitress and they allowed us to dine inside. When a small reaturant is open, all of it's facilities need to be available to the customer. the view is wonderful and we got spoiled with that same wonderful view from our bed and breakfast. Will definitely be back.

“not as good this time...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 23, 2009

We have always stopped by this fun place for breakfast and had a good time. However, this time (mid February 2009) the place was not as good. The food was so so, not much flavor. The salt shaker was empty at 9am and they were both rather dirty. The honey bottle was almost hard inside, the ketchup was refilled and dirty. The bread pudding was dry and no flavor.

Service was typical Hawaiian time style. Okay with me! Maybe they could buy some chairs and tables other than the white plastic K-mart style ones.

Sure hope they make some changes or they most likely will lose business and I really don't want them to go away. Just little things can make this fun again.

“The best breakfast around”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 10, 2009

We got there as they opened at 7:30 and were glad that we did. It filled up very quickly and for good reason. The food was excellent and the service was friendly and prompt. I had the papaya special, half a papaya filled with fruit and topped with yogurt and coconut. It was served with eggs and tropical bread pudding. I'm salivating just thinking about it. My husband's omelet, potatoes and toast disappeared quickly as well. Each one was about $11, if we weren't so greedy we could have shared. Don't miss this one!

“Best breakfast/lunch spot with fantastic view”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 4, 2009

Wow! Great views, simple yet fresh and delicious breakfast. French toast to die for. Veggie omlette, eggs....just great. I loved this place. Very reasonable comparing to resort. Great wait staff. Grab sandwiches if you're going to the Volcano.
