One of the times I was here in the winter, the avocado tree was FULL of fruit! It was amazing. I wanted to reach out and grab a few, but they were too far away. I do know where the Coffee Shack gets a lot of their avocados though...right in their backyard.

This is a great place to stop for a light lunch on the way back from Honaunau. Yes, you can get a coffee and some yummy desserts, but I like the variety of sandwiches. You can't miss this place, it's right on the road.

Read or dream about places all you want but there is absolutely nothing like the real thing. The Coffee Shack was a 'must do' of place to eat on the Big Island. And what a treat. It was breakfast for us. Our meals were the ono benny and the meat lovers scramble. Both were rated excellent. And there is a side show while we were there. Geckos, the cutest little folks, were feasting out of small containers placed on the railing. Two geckos per offering was the unwritten rule amongst them. The staff were warm and cheerful. Service was very good. Put the Coffee Shack on your list of places to eat on the Big Island. I almost forgot to mention the spectacular view from the porch located at the 1000' level out over the landscape to the ocean in the distance. Yes, the awesome scenery is a delightful bonus to the great food.

THE place to get your take-out sandwiches en route for a day's snorkelling at Pu`uhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park bay. Sandwiches are humongous, come with pickle, chips and hot pepper and are packed in plastic box. Parking is limited so get there early.

I think this charming restaurant has the best location on the island. The view is outstanding and you may not know, but there is no such thing as too many geckos.

And the food at this place is so delicious! First of all they bake their own bread and it was the best I have ever eaten in my life. When you order a sandwich, they ask you what kind of bread do you want: Whole Wheat, Luau, Rye, Onion Dill, Greek Isle or French. All choices are great, but my favourite is Luau, made with macadamia nuts, carrots, pineapple and coconuts. Amazing! Especially with chicken salad. Food heaven! Really! And so fresh! We would take these sandwiches to the beach for a little snack.

Anyway, really good breakfast and lunch place. I fell in love with Papaya Special!

Stopped here for breakfast while seeing the sights on Kona coast. The ocean view is amazing and the food is too. I had a tasty mahi mahi omellette with luau coconut bread while my wife had Ahi tuna eggs benedict. Of course, the coffee is excellent local Kona coffee and your cup is generously refilled as often as requested.
There is limited parking so get here early for breakfast or lunch.
