“Worth the Hike”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 7, 2013 via mobile

If you have a 1/2 day open it is worth a visit to snorkel. If the seas are coming from the SSW you might want to pass.
The kayak trips have started up again on a limited basis.

“A work out with great snorkeling”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 1, 2013

One of the best hikes near Kona. South of Kona on Hwy 11 Napoopoo Rd veers off to the right and the trail head is poorly marked but very near this intersection on Napoopoo Rd. You can see the trail google maps. Starts of through high grass and then opens up after a tenth of a mile or so. Great views, but a moderate hike with 1300 ft of elevation change over 2 miles. Trail well marked but rough. Snorkeling at the monument is pretty good, especially if you get lucky and a dolphin pod shows up, but can get crowded when the tour boats arrive. Take plenty of water and a hat because it can be a hot, dry hike back up.

“GOOD SNORKELING”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 21, 2013

Good snorkeling area if water is calm. Water temp at this time only 75', a wet suit is suggested. If you go by boat tour, they discourage you from going on shore to see the monument up close,.

“Great Snorkeling”

Excellent Snorkeling- we walked - a long hike up and back but a good way to go. The only other way is by boat

“Worth the hike down”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 6, 2013

It's a 1 hour hike down, not a walk, bring shoes, not sandals. Neat to see for history buffs, also snorkelling right in front of the monument is good. Only accessible by hiking, kayaks no longer allowed.
