Owner description: Kona Historical Society's Kona Coffee Living History Farm in Captain Cook is a "must see" Hawaii attraction and the only living history coffee farm in the nation. Stroll through this Smithsonian-affiliated, outdoor museum that tells the story of Kona's Japanese immigrants that became Kona's coffee pioneers during the early 20th century. A self-guided experience, you're free to walk among the coffee trees, meet a "Kona Nightingale", or watch how farmers used the kuriba and hoshidana to mill and dry their world-famous coffee. Visit the original 1920's farmhouse where you may find the homemaker starting the fire to cook rice or making musubi for the farmer's lunch. "Talk story" along the way with living history interpreters and discover the story behind Kona's gourmet crop.

“Kona Coffee tour, a step back in time.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 18, 2014

While on a Globus tour, our group stopped at this Living History Farm for a tour of how hand picked Kona Coffee used to be harvested and processed. The tour is informative and interesting...it provides a greater appreciation for the work that goes in to making such a superb cup of coffee.

Also on site are a fair amount of free range chickens and the farm's donkey. All are friendly, and the donkey likes to hang out nearby at the end of the tour while you sample the coffee and buy some whole bean or macadamias for your trip home.

“Wonderful tour experience ”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 5, 2014 via mobile

The three of visited for the first time. Had an excellent guided tour through the old preserved building. The guide presented a super perspective of the previous living conditions. Then, had another excellent guide and tour through the gardens and tropical vegetation. Excellent one hour tour.
