“Wonderful Stay...Hope to Return Soon!!!”
Reviewed September 18, 2013

We stayed here on the second half of our week long trip to the Big Island. Lee & Svetlana were great innkeepers! They were very friendly throughout our stay and so helpful in helping us plan our daily excursions to nearby attractions. They know the area very well and recommended a number of intersting trips to several beaches and nearby towns. Appreciated to see things on Kona-side that were not in Kona - which is very touristy and busy. Svetlana is an excellent chef! She alternated between sweet & savory breakfast each morning, using fresh produce from their own land, which you can also pick yourself to take with as a snack for the day. She even gave us extra banana bread to sustain us on our flights back to the mainland.

The driveway to the Aloha Guest House is tucked away off the main road and then there is a very steep and bumpy ride up a mountain side to get to the actual house. I think it was actually worse in a 4x4 Jeep, so you might want to try a smaller SUV. The crazy journey pays off big time at the top! The Aloha Guesthouse is nestled amongst several coffee bean farms and fruit orchards, which gives it a nice jungle feeling, but it is high enough on the mountain that you get incredible views of the ocean below. Our room had giant windows facing the ocean, so we got to witness some great sunsets! Also really liked the community deck space where you could sit out to enjoy the weather but also mingle with other guests.

Overall a really love B&B with wonderful innkeepers! Hope to return one day!!!

Room Tip: Be sure to pick one of the rooms towards the front of the house with views looking down the mountain...

We stayed here with another couple and each had separate rooms, but were able to still hang out together in the beautiful lanai outside the rooms and of course enjoy the most delicious breakfast everyone morning together and meet new friends. Lee and Svetlana were amazing hostesses with such sweet serving spirits. They were excellent in giving tips on restaurants and places to go. We ate at every place they suggested, which was wonderful. We actually enjoyed the challenge drive up to the B&B. We hysterically laughed the entire way as I read out loud each humorous step by step instructions leading the way up to my hubby and friends. So don't let the bumpy and slow ride up scare you just have fun with it and experience a little bit of back road aloha beauty without all the commercial flare. I love staying at resorts too, but if we come back to the Big Island we will definitely be booking our stay here again at the Aloha Guest House. Now if we could only afford to purchase the amazing coffee machine that brewed the smoothest coffee ever for us every morning we might be able to pretend we were back enjoying this beautiful place. Thanks again Lee and Svetlana!!! God Bless!!!

Room Tip: We ended up staying in the room overlooking the ocean with our bed right against the window. The vi...

All we can say is we should have booked a longer stay. The excitement of the road leading up the mountain was a theme park ride in itself. The room, grounds, and the whole house was top of the line. There are little subtleties throughout the house. The view from our room rivaled any of those from the beachfront resorts on Oahu. If you are undecided about where to stay on the Kona Coast, stress no more. You will not find better.

Room Tip: We had the Kohalo Room. It offers a beautiful dual picture window view, a designer bathroom, and a...

I am not sure what more I can add to the long list of stellar reviews…..Lee and Svetlana are indeed wonderful hosts. They have created a warm and welcoming vibe and make feeling at home effortless. The property is beautiful and well appointed. The bed was super comfy and the views were insane. Breakfasts were definitely a highlight. Between the local Kona artisan coffee, the fresh eggs from their own (happy go lucky) chickens, to Svetlana’s creativity….your taste buds will be thrilled. Described as Russian-Island Fusion, the flavors and combinations were exciting to experience. We are foodies for sure and were both very impressed. As hosts, they were also great at pointing us towards the best food and sites that the island had to offer and we ended up in places that they don’t list in the standard guide books. For me personally, one of the coolest things was when I mentioned being a guitar player and that I wished I had my guitar. Turns out that Lee also played and broke out his guitar for me to play. This was about as cool as it gets!!

A word about the “road”…As you likely have read the other reviews, you now know that there is an interesting drive involved. This is true. I agree that an SUV, 4 wheel drive, or at least a vehicle with high clearance should be considered. The road is just under a mile from the main road to the B&B. It is steep, bumpy, twisty and turny…but totally driveable and kinda cool I thought. A few days before your visit you will receive an email from Lee with details about the drive. Print this and read it BEFORE you get on the road. Do not try to read it on your phone while you are driving on it like I did. LOL. Cheers

We recently stayed here 4 nights as part of a 20 day trip to 5 of the Hawaiian Islands and Aloha Guest House was fantastic in every way. Lee and Svetlana went above and beyond to make our stay the best it could be with tips on the best restaurants and even loaned us snorkel equipment and coolers. One day they gave us a tour of their 5 acres and showed us the beautiful free range chickens that provide the eggs for breakfast and all kinds of fruit trees that provide the fruit for breakfast. Svetlana's breakfasts were the best we have ever had at a B&B and we have stayed at many great B&Bs. If you are going to the Big Island, this is the place to stay.

This is a fabulous B&B ~1500 feet above the Pacific Ocean, so it has incredible views of the ocean as well as the surrounding Kona Coast. The vegetation is nice mix of decorative plants and fruit trees, and you drive through a coffee planation on the way up the hill. The rooms are well equipped, and the commons areas spacious and inviting. Above all, Lee and Svetlana are very welcoming hosts who are attentive to individual needs without becoming intrusive, providing spot-on advice on the many things to do on the Big Island. Svetlana's fresh, hearty, varied breakfasts (with mostly local/organic ingredients), together with Lee's fresh Kona coffee provide a wonderful start to the day.
The trip to the house involves a one mile drive that climbs ~500 feet from the state highway. The road is steep but paved where Lee and Svetlana maintain it, and bumpy where others maintain it instead. You really need to rent a SUV for proper ground clearance. That said, we were there during Tropical Storm Flossie, and drove up to the house in the height of the storm without a problem.
We had to return to Honolulu for a business conference. We are in a nice hotel on Waikiki now, but the change was, frankly, wrenching. We miss Aloha Guest House.

This guest house is perched high in the hills with a beautiful view of the west coast.Lee and Svetlana are wonderful hosts. They are very friendly, knowledgeable of the area and so personable. The rooms are gorgeous. The breakfast is to die for. Svetlana varies her breakfasts from savory one day to something sweet the next day. Most of the food is organic or fresh from their property.Their coffee was probably the best we had on the island.Lee can explain it to you.
Now there is only ONE catch. The .97 mile drive up the Old Tobacco Road!!! The almost one mile drive up Tobacco Road is well worth it. Once you have driven it, it is a piece of cake. The reward is the accommodations, the company and the food.We were only there for two nights. The next time we go it will be a much longer stay!
Go and enjoy!
