As a wildlife photographer, it is always pleasing to encounter someone who shares your passion for the outdoors and for the beautiful wildlife this country is blessed to have. A.J. was the perfect host and wildlife guide. He was most knowledgeable about not only the river, but the wildlife living along the river. We saw Bald Eagles so close that I hardly needed a telephoto lens. We also encountered several Osprey, a Beaver, Marmot and a Mink racing in and out of the boulders on the river. A.J. was a gracious host and took all the time we needed to capture the perfect photo.

This is a special, one of a kind experience not to be missed. We took our teenage kids on a float trip on A.J.'s beautiful wooden boat. It surpassed my expectations. We saw bald eagles and lots of other wildlife. The boat itself is comfortable and dry. The fact that there are seat backs means your back isn't killing you when you are finished with your float. Plus, we had s'mores at AJ's private campsite afterward. Skip all the other float trips and spend your time doing something truly remarkable. Thanks for the memories A.J.!

My husband and I did the Sunset Float back in September and had a great time watching the scenery go by and spotting eagles and osprey with Kevin as our guide. It ends at their private camp along the river bank with appetizers while you watch the sunset. (you won't need dinner after this, trust me.) We brought a bottle of wine with us and enjoyed a drink on the boat and back at the camp. It ended with a visit to their very cool indian teepee in the woods for some cookies. The teepee is quite authentic and very cool. ( I believe they also use it in the winter for the sleigh rides.) Would also be great family fun to have a meal there. The kids would love it.

This outfit may be somewhat pricey, but if you can afford it then I think it's a better experience than any of the group floats. Plus, that indian teepee rocks! LOL

This tour is for people who don't want to speed down the beautiful Snake River with a raft full of strangers. Our guide was knowledgable, personable and professional. The scenery is breathtakingly beautiful and this is simply the best way to enjoy it. We were told they will have sleigh rides again this winter, with dinner at their camp on the river. That would be an experience.

For those who don't want the crowds of a large inflatable and want to opt for a more refined and personal tour of the Snake River, A. J. DeRosa's Wooden Boat River Tours offer a perfect solution. We had originally scheduled this trip for a Monday but the forecast for Monday was less than ideal and A. J. graciously rescheduled our trip from two days later. This may not be possible during the height of the season but A. J. will certainly try and accomodate any requests. Our trip down the river started with an introduction to a great looking Rapid Robert drift boat by Kevin, our local and knowledgable guide, followed by a departure out into the main channel of the Snake. Throughout the next several hours Kevin worked the boat with a deft touch and provided us with front seat views of the varied wildlife of Jackson Hole. Whenever a great photo opportunity presented itself, Kevin put the boat in the most favorable position while simultaneously providing helpful and knowledgeable commentary about the river, its' occupants and history. After several hours we decided to get out of the boat and search for morel mushrooms. We stopped at A. J. Derosa's river camp near noon and were very pleasantly surprised by the wonderful brunch spread and the lovely setting of the camp. I must say that the portajohns provided were the most well equipped and clean facilities I've ever encountered in alternative restroom facilities. After meeting A. J. and another guide we returned to the boat for another two hours of perfect river scenery and commentary. While the price point of this river trip is a bit more than the 10-12 person rubber rafts, the individual treatment by a guide who knows the river, the territory, and the wildlife, coupled with truly luxurious treatment is well worth it. If you want to experience the Snake River with a loved one and an unobtrusive, yet ecofriendly and knowledgeable guide, then give A. J. Derosa a call and discuss the alternatives. I can almost guarantee that any trip with this outfit will be worth the additional cost.
