It is quite a jaunt from Cody to Yellowstone National Park on Hwy 20, so it nice to stay a bit closer than to avoid a 52 mile drive, plus the 27 mile mountain drive from the entrance of the Park to the first "town" - Fishing Bridge - located in the park. Yellowstone Valley Inn is about 22 miles from the entrance. First of all, it is summer and lodging is few and far between Cody and the Park, so the prices are high for the convenience. It is basically located in a valley with no other resources close by. It has a great RV park with a pool etc. Seems like RVs like it here. The hotel is very basic. You are located right on the highway, so it is noisy into the late evening hours. The view in the back along the Shoshone River is pretty and refreshing. The room was warm, so it was nice to sit outside until our room cooled down. There was a AC, which was nice. The beds were comfortable, the pillows were not. It has a small bathroom. I didn't feel real welcome at check-in. They seemed like they were in a bit of a hurry and weren't interested in explaining much to us other than here is your key. We were fortunate to have a room on the first floor or it would have been a pain to carry luggage and food up the steps to the second floor, especially on this hot, rainy day. WIFI was spotty, but really didn't expect much as you are pretty much out in the wide open plains. They had a restaurant, which was pricey. There again not much of a choice unless you want to drive back to Cody for dinner. We were disappointed in our food to say the least. The steak had to be cooked and re-cooked three times to get it medium well. By that time, everything else was cold. It was warm in the restaurant. My drink was lacking ice and actually tasted warm and old, if that is possible. Maybe a beer would have been a better choice. They did comp our meal by 50% for the inconvenience, which was nice. A very good hot breakfast in the morning was included in our stay, which was nice. It is serve yourself, but there is a note on the table that asks for tips. Overall, our experience wasn't the best. I noticed the hotel was for sale, which might be why they were not all that interested. I believe they cater to the RV customer. But the good news, it did shorten our drive on a busy highway. The room was clean.

Room Tip: first floor as far away from the highway as possible

I was surprised to hear of your experience in our restaurant as we've become accustomed to much better. As you discovered nothing is cheap in the greater Yellowstone area and all new facilities in our valley have been zoned out so it takes people like us to take on the job of rebuilding and remodeling older facilities. Sorry it took a couple tries to get medium well on your steak but our chefs are always striving to not over cook steaks. We are interested in all our guests as shown in most of our reviews. Many say they leave feeling like family! We've had the property for sale for a couple yrs. Big investments like this don't usually sell quickly so we're planning ahead. I know of no one who has invested in their property the amount of money my wife and I have the last 13 yrs. ($1.3 mil) and this yr we've had our 13th straight increase in sales. Not to many places like ours can boast a record like that and it's due to reinvesting every cent back in the property and our attention to our guests. Thanks again for staying with us. Ron

I only stayed one night on 8/17 but I wish I stayed a few more nights. Like others said, my room had a spectacular view from the backyard. They had very friendly staffs working there and the breakfast was awesome. I highly recommend this place. Their internet is based on the satellite service so don't expect to download movies and videos. Good for emails.

Thanks for the great review! Concerning our WIFI I've increased our bandwidth every yr to the max available to me but when I checked a couple weeks ago with our provider I was told at that very moment we had 168 people using our internet and if anyone tries streaming it slows the speed for everyone. We'll keep trying to improve it like we do with everything here at our resort. Hurry back! Ron

The view was perfect, patio looking over the river. The staff was extremely friendly, but due to the location there was no cell connection for my phone and the way they have their internet set up the connection wasn't reliable.

Thanks for the 4 stars. All us here greatly appreciate it! We switched our entire business here to Verizon Wireless several yrs ago with great success but I know people with other providers may have trouble. As I said previously if people stream on our wifi it can overload the system but we're constantly looking for ways to improve it. Thanks again, Ron

The accommodation was small and basic. The staff were pleasant and hard working. The food was welcome particularly given that we were miles from anywhere. What though made this so special was the location. The inn was set in a beautiful valley overlooking the river in a stretch described by Theodore Roosevelt as the most beautiful 52 miles in America. Wish we had had linger

I've read several reviews where travelers have focused on their personal pet peeves. I have none when it comes to YVI!
The property is invitingly flat, graveled, friendly and safe. Everything is here, e.g., laundry, showers, hot tub, pool, wi-fi, full-menu restaurant, great bar and grill, etc., etc. And everything is clean and serviceable. The staff is wonderful and extremely accommodating. High marks go to Paula and Nancy at the desk and Courtney and Randy in the bar and the great Karaoke evenings. Randy carries the evening when singers are bashful and he really needs to cut a CD so you can listen to him when you return to the road. Final comment: Ron, the owner, is the most pleasant and knowledgeable park owner that I have met to date. He doesn't hide in an office somewhere on the property. He's out front sharing experiences and proving that he really cares about providing the best experience that he can.
