I have been to the Mangy Moose several times during my vacation in Jackson. I enjoyed the lively and very crowded atmosphere for apres ski beers. I also had a laid back lunch here another day, the fish and chips and sandwich were yummy. Last night, I went for dinner. We considered sitting on the restaurant side (the place is split into saloon on one side and restaurant on the other), but chose the saloon because it seemed more..."happening". There are several choices of "wild game" on the menu which is what we were looking for. Elk sirloin with porcini ravioli and madeira sauce was really great. Lots of flavor, cooked rare according to chef's suggestion. Qualifies as more like medium rare to me, but was delicious. The steelhead (trout) served with greens and butternut quash puree was tender and very good as well. Both dishes were far closer to fine dining quality meals than I expected to receive in a saloon. I knew the food had to be good since the Moose has been around a long time, but I was really pleased. Service was smooth and friendly. Our server was working half the bar at least, with several tables of fairly demanding folks that were still in their ski boots at 930-they were inebriated to say the least. She handled it all very well and also gave us the attention that we needed.
