“It was just ok”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

This was our first trip to Jackson Hole and we were excited to stay at the Four Seasons for a few nights as we wanted to experience both Teton Village and the town so we stayed at 2 different resorts starting with the Four Seasons. As one would expect, the hotel is beautiful with a great bar with fire pits outside, plus a casual pub, The Handle Bar, a nicer restaurant, The Westbank Grill, nice spa and decent workout facility. The rooms were also good size, with double sinks, great shower, nice toiletries, and a gas fireplace in the bedroom. We booked a Valley View room, knowing that that even the lower class of room is still a nice room at the Four Seasons (having stayed at several other Four Seasons ) so when I asked upon check-in if we had a nice view, the man checking us basically lied unless one likes looking at all the cars driving up in the driveway and people watching as folks check into the hotel. That's right - our "Valley View" overlooked the valley of the driveway up to the entrance. So not what one wants, and I wish that they had just told the truth instead of trying to tell us it was nice view. In any event, paid for the upgrade to a Mountain View room - which was slightly better in that yes, indeed there was a mountain or large hill out our window but so was the ski lift which might have looked cool in winter but in summer was just kind of there and vast. We were also over The Handle Bar so conversations drifted in at night but it was still better than the driveway "valley view." There were other inconsistencies which, staying at the Four Seasons should not exist. For example, the concierge team was on the whole not good. Our reservations were mixed up for dinner on a few occasions and in one instance we were told that we couldn't get into a particular restaurant but we ended up going there anyway and got seated at a table right away - go figure. Also, their trail maps for the hikes were terrible until one good concierge finally told us to talk to the folks in their Base Camp store. We went there and a very knowledgeable young man pointed us in the direction of a terrific trail map - a National Geographic guide - which unfortunately, they had just sold out of but he told us where we could get one in town. The pool area was nice although the pool was poorly designed with a big boulder type structure in the middle that you couldn't go on - which was fine - but it took up a lot of space in the pool with less room to swim, still it was nice to go in one of the 3 hot tubs at the end of a long hike and swim around the boulder and ease the aching muscles. I wouldn't stay in Teton Village again - just not enough there to justify it unlike other ski areas that have a town area and a mountain village area. Maybe I'd feel differently if we were skiing. And the drive into town was about 15 -20 minutes depending on traffic so one may not want to go out to dinner in town and then drive back to the village. Finally, on the housekeeping, on our first day, after being gone for several hours hiking, we returned and the room was not yet made up, this was about 3 in the afternoon so we were somewhat annoyed and wanting to lie down after a day of hiking but - to their credit, they came and made up the room immediately upon our calling and thereafter it was a not a problem. Bottom line - when you stay at a Four Seasons, you expect a certain level of quality and service, this time it wasn't all there. I really wanted to love it but was disappointed - there are other hotels in the area that may not have all the amenities the Four Seasons has, but on the whole are better because they excel at what they do have.

Room Tip: Don't get a Valley View room!

This hotel is outstanding. The rooms are beautiful and the staff really wants to please. It is a little off the beaten path in the summer. The chairlift is nearby and should not be missed. The views are superb.

I stayed at the Four Seasons in Jackson for 4 nights. With a small surcharge I have been upgraded to a king bed suite. The room was very nice and clean as well as the 2 bathrooms. As expected, services were perfect and staff members were very friendly (maybe they have too many “young” members’ staff that requires more experience…).
The hotel has every things you need but maybe the swimming pool should be a little bit bigger ( compared with the ones you can get at the Four Seasons in Vail – Colorado).
Food at the restaurant (the steakhouse) was excellent.
Overall, a typical, beautiful Four Season resort

You will be challenged to find a better view or hotel in the Jacskon Hole area. I think there are only 3 hotels there...well maybe more than 3, but you get the picture.
The guys out front, bell hops, are first rate...always looking to help.
The desk staff is not as helpful...they seem to be constantly telling you someone else you need to talk to about a request...oh, need a cab...please talk to the bell hop...need to check out...oh it is that desk over there...we only stand here and wait for check ins....hahaha, well not their words, but that is certainly what I saw.

The minibar was not stocked, and there was not bottles of water in the room. Rather, a jug o water...supposedly rustic, but I have to say...I was a bit uncomfortable drinking from an open container that was left in the room.

The room service was marginal at best. I ordered a $25 burger medium, and it came to me well done and flavorless.

Okay, to state the obvious, this is a Four Seasons so it's still beautiful and wonderful compared to say a Hampton Inn. Thus, this review is as much based upon what you should be getting at a Four Seasons for the price as it is anything else.

The facility is all very nicely done, elegant (western) rooms, nice bathrooms with double sinks, great amenities, flat screen TV's, great linens. Nice spa, great bar area, decent workout facility. Again mostly what you would expect. But there were gaps. This Four Seasons does not furnish the mini bars. I think the euphemism that was conveyed to us was so "guests could personalize them". Yet there was no store at the facility so you either had to go off site or order room service. Nor did they put any bottles of water in your room - pretty standard fare for a hotel of this caliber even if they do have good tap water.

And then there are the views. We were told our room, a Valley view, would be a great view by the check in clerk. The valley view is really a view of the drive up area and the top of part of the facility. If you are going to open your window, you'll hear the fountain but you'll also hear all of the conversations with the valet, people coming and going and bellmen. The valley view was not at all what we were told and we paid the upgrade to move to a mountain view room.

The view in the second room was indeed of the mountain, but really was a view of the ski lift. In the winter that might be really cool but in the summer it was just big. The good news was that it was more quiet, although we were not situated over the bar. Still an improvement from the first room.

The concierges were inconsistent. Some were really excellent but some were not. For instance the first night we were there we had conflicting information on the time of our reservation at their nicer restaurant, the Westbank Grill. Rather than sort it out the concierge transferred me to the restaurant hostess to do it myself. I'd never heard of that at a Four Seasons. Not to be picky BUT we were at a Four Season and eating in their facility - they should have sorted it out.

We wanted to do some good hiking and there maps are very generic, as our the route descriptions. Eventually a smart concierge sent us to the "Base Camp" facility at the hotel where a seasoned outdoors man was able to walk us through the hikes and show us the right map to buy (there were out of them but what you'll want is the "Trails Illustrated Map, Grand Teton by National Geographic."

There were indeed some great staff and recommendations so the brush should not be painted to broadly. It is simply to say that you expect consistent and great service at a Four Seasons and when you don't get it, it stands out. This Four Seasons has some work to do to get the 5 stars they should have or for that matter us to come back.

Room Tip: Mountain view, higher floors!

We sincerely appreciate your feedback. The minibars are not stocked as we like to personalize them but in the future we'd be happy to stock yours along with provide bottled water, just let us know when you book next. We do hope to welcome you back again soon and thank you for your feedback.

While the Four Seasons Jackson Hole Teton Village is a beautiful property in a great location the food and beverage group were really lacking on this trip. Breakfast was a disaster every morning beginning with bad coffee to the omelette chefs inability to make an omelette without either burning it brown or leaving it raw in the middle. Tried to also order a la carte and the waitress took 45 minutes to bring me my order and then it was not right. After a beautiful walk on the Snake River we would return to sit out by the pool and have lunch daily. Again, wait staff was bad for food and beverage service. They were good at setting up your chair and towel right away but after that you were on your own. Many times we had to go to their desk and interrupt their intense conversations amongst themselves to ask for service. We would tell them that we had been waving at them and trying to get their attention but they were not noticing. Kind of felt ignored. Apologies were always free flowing but changes did not occur. After about the fourth day we found the food and beverage manager of the whole property. He did seem to get things straightened out and improvements started showing. Food quality was not as good as it was in summer of 2012. Less Organics, grassfed, free range items on the menu and it seemed like a whole more salt was being added this year than in 2012. Maybe they got a different chef? We try to go to places that are beautiful, luxurious, and offer healthy selections for food and fantastic service. In 2012 this was the case here but in 2013 food quality was not so good.

Our accommodations were beautiful and recently updated with new furnishings, art, rugs, etc. housekeeping did a great job. We stayed in the residences and we really enjoyed our villa. The lobby, bar, concierge, front desk, spa, and valet all did an outstanding job. All of this is expected in a Four Seasons. I scored them average though because the food and beverage service was amiss to the point that we were miserable....not a Four Seasons expected experience. I really hope this property gets back on track as it is lovely!

Room Tip: Both Valley View and Mountain Views are good but Valley Views include the drive way, valet, and park...

This is a VERY nice resort, ideally located at the base of Jackson Hole Ski Resort in Teton Village. The service is outstanding and the décor is suited to the location with a western motif. The concierge and staff do an outstanding job of assisting guests with meal and outings. Of course, it is hideously expensive, and when you are paying the kind of money it takes to stay here, you expect everything to be perfect and unfortunately it wasn't, hence the four stars.

We stayed in conjunction with our 30th anniversary and my wife's birthday. She loves to have a view, and when booking the rooms, we had options of mountain view, valley view and resort view, in order of price. The valley view would have been perfectly fine and I expressly asked if our room would be high enough to have a view. I was told it was a fifth floor room; perfect. What they neglected to say was that the lobby is on the fourth floor. Now, there is no floor beneath the lobby, but if you follow the resort to the base of the mountain, perhaps there is room for three floors below the lobby. Unfortunately, my fifth floor room was ground level, looking into the back of shrubbery. In other words, no view. Perhaps reservations were through Four Seasons central reservations, by an agent with no knowledge of the hotel layout. All I know is that I paid a premium for a view that did not exist.

I've about given up on expecting free Wi-Fi, even in hotels that charge $1,000/night, but this is the first time I've been given two options for Wi-Fi, $10/night for normal Wi-Fi, and $18/night for super duper fast Wi-Fi. Sucker that I am, I opted for the $18 option. Not only was it not fast, but it was constantly dropping the signal. Granted, when I pointed that out at check-out, they deleted the charges. Also, $30 a night for valet, seems a little bit over the top during the summer, when it is not crowded and you are surrounded by wide, open spaces. Between the internet and the valet charges, I felt a little bit gouged.

Our dinner at Westbank Grill was supposed to include birthday cake for my wife, but they forgot. Upon discovering the error, they apologized profusely and sent a bottle of champagne to the room as an apology.

My son and his wife booked a fly fishing excursion through the hotel. They were told to meet their guide in the lobby at 8:00 a.m. At 8:30, after inquiring several times, they were finally told that the guide had been waiting on them at another location within the hotel since 7:45.

Don't get me wrong, this was by no means the vacation from Hell, but these seemingly minor issues, in the face of an astronomic bill, prevent me from giving an unqualified endorsement. The spa was excellent, the food was always very good and the service was outstanding. If I went back to Teton Village, I would likely stay here again, as the location is perfect and the service and staff were so gracious.

Room Tip: Realize that the lobby is on the fourth floor. You need to be on at least the sixth floor to have a...
