Description: In February 2008, Fine Dining Restaurant Group, of Rendezvous Bistro & Q Roadhouse fame, brought a taste of Italy to Jackson Hole with the opening of Il Villaggio Osteria. Located inside the Hotel Terra which is the state’s first LEED certified property and only the fifth in the United States. Highlights of the intimate restaurant are Il Villagio Osteria’s 12-seat wine bar and eight seat salami bar, where guests can watch as imported meats and cheeses, sourced from the country’s finest purveyors, are hand-sliced to order. House made pastas, sausage stuffed olives, beautiful wines and entrees round out the exquisite multi course menu.

We decided to eat at Osteria last year based on reviews on TA, and we had a GREAT meal!! Wonderful atmosphere, although be prepared to eat close to other diners. Reservations are recommended. We are heading back to the village next week and I am making reservations for Osteria right now!

We just came back from a wonderful dining experience next door at Osteria, and the online reviews we read, although very good, do not do the restaurant justice. Every piece just worked so well for my wife and I! We shared: one salad, one pasta order, pork chops, and a "triple-garlic" pizza. One Italian sauvignon blanc that reminded us of nothing so much as crisp apple wedges. And two desserts.

The salad gave a hint of what was to come. Perfect for two people sharing, and uniquely mixed with ingredients that we could best describe as "intelligent fusion":. The pasta -- for once in our lives, we didn't have to tell them "al dente". Superb, with a delightful sauce which did not overpower. My wife had the chops, and as a person who has eaten in many NYC restaurants over the better part of 40 years, she knows pork chops. She simply pronounced them "the best she'd ever had".

My pizza was thin-crust, not overpowered by cheese or tomato, just right. (We took 3 slices back to our hotel.)

The desserts we chose were an evening special tart (with homemade ice cream) and a lemon sponge cake with coconut. You won't see desserts when you visit the restaurant website, but do yourself a favor and save room. Outstanding! (My wife advises that it's better for two people to share one dessert. These are big portions.)

When the bill came, we checked it twice, because we couldn't believe this perfect meal was so inexpensive. (In New York this would have easily topped $200.)

On the environment: half the diners were eating outside in the shadow of the ski lift, because it's still mid-60s weather on Oct 3rd.. We chose to eat in. Lighting was very skillfully located -- no hotspots nor dark corners. The music was appropriately atmospheric -- adult, soft background music (not Muzak) that enhanced the ambience. (In my experience this is one of the most difficult things to achieve in any public space. Bravo!) Finally, last but certainly not least, the staff was universally enthusiastic, friendly and knowledgeable.

I would rate this restaurant in the top five dining experiences in my 57 years (including Paris, Florence, Hong Kong, Tokyo and both American coasts).

After a long day in Yellowstone, we were able to get a table at this restaurant as a walk-in. However, they were really packed, so I would suggest a reservation. The food was excellent and well-prepared.
