What a disappointing tourist trap. As a local, I don't care if the steak is named after Buffalo Bill or not. I just want good food. It tasted ok but the price was VERY high for the small portions.

On entering We were promptly seated and given water....... from that point we seemed to become invisible to all staff who seemed to be looking busy despite the restaurant fairly quiet. Waitress was eventually asked if an order could be taken, with another 30 minutes estimated for order to be taken. Enough was enough and we left unimpressed with customer service and a clear impression that our custom was not wanted !

Despite it being an interesting location best advised to go elsewhere where you will get genuine customer service, good food and prompt service from a more deserving restaurant in the town !

We stopped in Sheridan for one night after a long drive from Glacier National Park en route to the Black Hills of South Dakota. The person at the front desk where we stayed recommended the 1893 for dinner because of its history and good steaks, so off we went. We arrived at the restaurant around 7:30 pm on a Saturday night. It was not extremely busy but not empty either. The young boy who met us at the door informed us that they were short one waitress but showed us to a table in the middle of the restaurant and gave us our menus and poured some water. We were a party of four. We all quickly decided what we wanted because we were tired and hungry and then waited for someone to come take our order. And waited. And waited. We watched three different waitresses and the young boy go right past our table many times, and they took great pains to avoid eye contact with us. About 20 minutes had now passed and no one had taken our order yet. One of our friends was finally fed up and stopped the boy as he was going by and asked if someone was going to take our order. One of the nearby waitresses overheard this question and finally stopped by and said she would be over soon to take our order, and that they were missing two waitresses now. The missing waitress story had now changed to two instead of one. Another 10 minutes passed and the young boy finally stopped by again and said that we would have to wait another 15 minutes before someone could take our order!!! Seriously? Taking an order takes about 5 minutes tops. We just got up and left without ordering anything, still hungry, tired, and now irritated that we we were ignored. We have never been treated like this in a restaurant. We were traveling with our friends from Scotland and we were embarrassed that they had to experience such a horrible example of American hospitality. We ended up going to Perkins for dinner where we had a lovely dinner equivalent to what we would have ordered at 1893, except with great service. 1893, you should be ashamed of yourselves and should train your staff better in hospitality. We won't be back.

We stopped here due to the history of the place. Which if you stop you should take a walk around and check out the cool stuff they have. Food was pretty good, a little too stuffy feeling, it would have been better if it was more relaxed.
