Attraction details
Owner description: The Pinedale region was at the heart of the Rocky Mountain Fur Trade, which supplied precious beaver pelts to the fashion industries of Europe and the eastern United States. Mountain men like Jim Bridger, Kit Carson, Thomas Fitzpatrick and William Sublette carved their legends here, and opened the way for the pioneers of the Oregon Trail. The Museum of the Mountain Man shares a comprehensive collection of Rocky Mountain fur trade journals, relics such as Jim Bridger’s Rifle and the finest Native American sheephorn bow still in existence. Opened May through October and winter season by appointment.

“A Surprise Treat”
Reviewed October 8, 2012

We thought we would take a look and were glad that we did. It was a great history lesson for us as overseas visitors and presents the history of the American West in a concise manner.

The exhibits were well presented and information clearly marked. There are two floors of display and the Museum is operated in a very professional manner

Stopped here for a few hours after a week long backpacking trip. Very cool to learn about the mountain man and Native American history of the area.

“Interesting and fun visit.”
Reviewed September 28, 2012

It wasnt too busy which was kind of nice, there were tons of things to look at and study. It was a pretty big museum, not what I was expecting for Pinedale.

What a great museum and it covered so much history without being boring. I wish I had gotten a copy of the video they show.
