“Great escape”
Reviewed September 16, 2012

We stayed here for 3 nights on our visit to Yellowstone and Grand Tetons National Parks. It is perfectly situated between the two parks for easy access to either. The rooms were a bit pricy but we considered that to be more for the location than anything else. There is no television or internet access in the rooms but we were very happy to not be so connected when we were trying to relax and connect more with nature. The lodge restaurent, Sheffield's, is also pricey but it is very good. The first night my husband ordered the burger and I ordered the nachos with chicken. When I got the nachos, there was no chicken on them, so they were comped when I got the corrected order. The next night I had the special of leek soup and seared tuna with Asian slaw and my husband had the steak. Each night, we very much enjoyed the dinner - service can be a little slow but we were happy to just sit and enjoy each other in the meantime. There is a gas station located on the grounds, which is very convenient but you do pay for that convenience. We are planning to stay here again whenever we return to the parks.

My wife and I booked at Flagg Ranch on short notice after deciding at the last minute to visit Yellowstone National Park. We stayed in a deluxe queen unit with 2 queen beds (Unit 335). The room was spacious, clean and recently remodeled. Our original intent was to visit both Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Park. However, the road through GTNP is under construction in several locations (and from the looks of it will be for quite some time), so we decided to concentrate on Yellowstone. Yes the Flagg Ranch location is a bit inconvenient for visiting much of Yellowstone, especially the northern part of the park. However, it is as convenient to the park as other locations outside the park in West Yellowstone, Cody or Gardiner.

I can't understand the negative reviews regarding the restaurant. We ate 9 meals there and they were all excellent. The chef is outstanding and the service staff, especially Rebekah, were all friendly and attentive. The quality of the food matched the prices, which we felt were reasonable.
Yes, the prices might be slightly higher than you would find in a metro area, but the Ranch location is remote and a significant distance from the supply chain.

My wife absolutely loved the place, which is the most important thing to consider, right?

We had a strong wifi signal in our cabin, but no Internet connectivity.

We loved Yellowstone and are already planning our next trip. Flagg Ranch will be on the itinerary!

Room Tip: Look for a room facing the Snake River for the best wildlife viewing

The cabins were beautifully re-modelled recently. Ours (#238) on the edge of the site, has French doors leading out into forest, very peaceful, chipmunks and squirrels abound, plus Mule deer just out the back door of our cabin. A mother and 3 young ones. There was a fleeting appearance of a mother Moose and her calf one evening. I would recommend this place; it is 2 miles from South Entrance to Yellowstone for ongoing to Grand Teton park
The spacious cabin was well-appointed with comfortable bedding, rustic carved furniture and a mini fridge. There is no television nor have they got wi-fi that works consistently. Cell phone patchy coverage too. Silence is golden.
Roads are gravelly, hence dusty car. Gas is $4 a gallon, it is the wilderness after-all.
Traveling through Yellowstone and the Grand Teton National Parks is a life-changing adventure, it involves a lot of driving, and a National Parks pass...$25 per day, $80 annual, or $10 Senior resident citizens only.
Only a slight quibble.... restaurant meals start at $25 for main course.... but the Buffalo/Elk meatloaf is mouthwatering. Staff at reception, maintenance, and restaurant were obviously happy in their jobs. Helpful to a tee. Our 2012 holiday stay was everything we had imagined and we will always remember this part of our Tetons/Old Faithful visit to Wyoming. If you ever wondered, as I always have done, what backwoods log cabins were like, away from street lights, shops and all the things city folks take for granted, grab your coonskin hat, leather jacket, and join me there next year. Truly wonderful and magical place.

We stayed here over labor day weekend. The cabins have been recently freshened up with new paint and carpeting. The bathroom still has the old fixtures. The Internet never worked in the cabin. The room cost $180 but the amenities did not equal the price. This was $100 hotel room at best.

Traveling through Yellowstone and the Grand Teton National Parks is an adventure however, it involves a lot of driving. We did not make lodging reservations prior to our arrival at the Flagg Ranch Lodge and were exhausted hoping for a vacancy. I had always dreamed on staying in a beautiful cabin in the woods and had hoped we would get a chance to experience that on our trip. Not only did the Flagg Ranch have a vacancy, they really went out of their way to see that we got the cabin and the lodging experience you would expect on a vacation to the greatest park in the United States. We checked in very late and Seth Farrell assisted us with our reservations. He immediately noticed how tired we were and gave us their best accommodation at a standard lodge price. The stay was everything I had imagined and I will forever remember this part of our vacation. The cabins were beautiful, peaceful, deer just out the back door of our cabin. I would recommend this place; it is just leaving yellowstone going into the Grand Teton park and is a perfect resting place. Thanks to Seth for making my vacation very magical.

Room Tip: Ask for a cabin in the woods and they will fix you up because that is what their entire lodge is mad...

We arrived at 11:30 PM having eaten only a banana all evening. The staff checked us in and found us a little snack to eat. We were so grateful. The cabin was perfect. I had packed a flashlight which was helpful. We had a breathtaking view overlooking a beautiful meadow full of birds and the Grand Tetons off in the distance. The porch & rockers were so relaxing. The cabin was pristine! We walked to lodge from our cabin to eat a great breakfast. The location was convenient to both GTNP & Yellowstone. We loved it and would recommend it to our friends.

Is this your first time to Yellowstone? It was ours. You learn a lot on your first trip! First, if you don't want to spend your whole vacation driving, choose your lodging carefully. Staying at Flagg Ranch gets you to the south entrance of Yellowstone, but you've only begun to drive. We started early, ate breakfast at Grant Village on Yellowstone Lake, enjoyed the West Thumb Geyser Basin, Mud Volcano, and the Upper and Lower Falls areas before eating lunch at Canyon Village. We toured the visitor center there before driving west to the Norris Geyser Basin. The welcome walk through that unearthly wonder ended late in the afternoon. We had to drive past the Geyser Basins straight to Old Faithful Inn because it was time for dinner. How nice it would have been to be able to stay there that night and continue exploring the next day! Or, a stay at Roosevelt Lodge would make the Lamar Valley accessible (best place for wildlife!). As it was, we were not up for another long drive the next day to return to Yellowstone and will plan better next time. We left Flagg Ranch (grabbed food in the store - restaurant so disappointing) knowing it would be a 2-hour drive to Jackson where we were staying that night. INCIDENT: We forgot our camera in our room and it was not there when we got back. Thankfully, it was located the next morning in the hotel safe, though the story of how it got there remained a mystery. Have a wonderful time, avoid the restaurant, and don't forget your camera. :)
