Budges' Slide Lake Cabins
Reviewed June 16, 2010

We stayed 5 nights in cabin 2, returned home today and my husband is ready to plan another trip there. The cabins are in a beautiful private setting. Our cabin had a large stone patio and stone steps down to the lake. The loft was a huge bonus space, we used it to watch movies and play card games with the teenagers every night. The loft ceiling is pretty low and if you have small kids , the steps up were pretty steep. The kitchen was equipped with everything you could need, washer and dryer, there was even a gas grill on the patio. There was a table full of maps and brochures for us which was nice.

It was about a 20 minute drive into Jackson, but like the rest of the reviewers mentioned...loads of wildlife along the road and it is a very easy drive - no steep mountain roads. There is a a short gravel road to the cabins, we were in a minivan and it was fine. Most of it was along the antelope flats. We hiked in the Jenny Lake area several times and I think it was actually quicker for us to get there using back roads than what it would have been if we stayed in Jackson.

We were originally booked to stay in the cottage across the lake, but after seeing the cabins decided we would rather stay in a cabin. Jane Budge was very nice about letting us switch. The cottage was fine and maybe even bigger than the cabin with a huge usable front yard. Our tastes just run towards cabins with lofts and stone, while other people will appreciate the claw foot tub, etc. of the cottage.

We made our reservation just a few weeks before our trip. I honestly believe that if the Budges had more information on the internet (prices, availability calendar, etc.) that it would have been much more difficult getting a reservation.

It's a bit of a drive to Slide Lake, part of which is on a gravel road, but if you want peace and quiet, Budges' Slide Lake cabins are just what the doctor ordered! The cabins themselves have everything you could possibly need and the most comfortable beds of our 16-day trip this summer. Complete with washer and dryer, full kitchen and plenty of extra towels and blankets, it is a spacious, comfortable place to stay while in the Tetons.

We stayed in cabin # 1 and what a perfect spot. Everything we needed was there and so clean. We had a lake view and saw lots of animals.

This is a wonderful place Thanks to Jane and her husband for a great stay,

My husband and I spent 5 days in cabin #4 and couldn't have asked for a better location. The cabin was clean, well kept, well supplied and offered a great view of frozen Slide Lake. High Country Snowmobiles does a Gros Ventre Mountain tour and the trailhead is right up the road from the cabin so we just met them there. On the snowmobile trip we saw elk, moose, bald eagles, a golden eagle, mountian sheep and a coyote (no wolf, but it wasn't because our guide, Chris, wasn't trying!). There were two elk that walked right across the frozen lake in front of the cabin. The view of the Tetons in this area is as good as it is anywhere. We have been to the area in the past and will be returning to Budge's soon!

We stayed at cabin #1 for two wonderful weeks ! Our cabin was clean, nicely furnished and included all the conveniences of home. The cabins are centrally located to GTNP, Yellowstone 50 mi. and Jackson Hole and we recommend using the cabin as your home base. The lake was great for fishing and the trout were delicious ! Even those days that we had nothing planned were spent out on the lake fishing and enjoying the view of the Grand Tetons. The cabins are fairly secluded so if peace ,quiet and relaxation are your thing you can't go wrong ( No TV). We saw more wildlife (bison, osprey, pronghorn, moose, muledeer, and a bear) on the roads to and from our cabin then we did on our three trips in Yellowstone. There is so much to see and do that you might want to consider more than a one week stay. Thank You to the Budge's for the greatest family vacation ever !! (My 6 yr. old son has already decided that he's staying in cabin #1 with his wife and FOUR kids!!)

This was a wonderful vacation. The cabin was comfortable, right on the lake. The scenery was amazing. There were six of us. It is off the beaten track - helped having an SUV, but once there it was fantastic. The lake, the mountains and the peace and quiet were perfect. A nice patio overlooking the lake about 10 miles from the entrance to the Grand Tetons with plenty of wildlife to see on the way. Great place for day trips to the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone. We rented a canoe at Dormans, where you can also stock up on groceries, fishing supplies, camping gear, etc, have a nice lunch or dinner, sign up for rafting trips - near the entrance to the Grand Teton Park. The owners were very nice. It was a trip we will always remember.

My husband and I took a road trip for our honeymoon to enjoy the scenery and see new sights. Budges' was the perfect base camp for our stay. Convenient, quiet, romantic and the setting is beautiful. We are looking forward to future stays.
