“Famous, small - and free.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 27, 2014

The antler arches at each of the four corners of this park are an iconic symbol of Jackson, as much as are the nearby mountains. First, as the town tells you that this is officially George Washington Memorial Park. However, I'm pretty sure that you would get a blank look from at least some locals if you referred to it as other than Town Square. The town also wants visitors to know that the arches are made of shed antlers, not hunting/harvesting trophies. Boy Scouts scour the Elk Refuge for antlers each spring for a fund-raising auction.
This isn't the biggest or most entertaining park, but it has several things going for it:
- Everyone knows where it is, so its great for meeting up with friends.
- It is at the heart of Jackson shopping.
- It is a stop on the free public START bus route.
- It is a nice relaxing place to stop and relax or plan your next destination.
- In winter, they have a nice, small skating rink, and the park is very photo-worthy.
- In summer, I understand that some pretty interesting bench sculptures of famous people are relocated here from the nearby Legacy Gallery.
- The arches are a unique and interesting landmark, worthy of pictures.
- If you're in Jackson, you're pretty much here anyway. Why walk around it when you can walk through.
- It's free.
Food and restrooms are nearby
