The best thing about this trip was the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. Dining with the other guests from various walks of life is an added bonus. The meals are incredible. Imagine a sauna in the middle of the woods!! FANTASTIC~ If you like the outdoors and the comforts of a 5-star hotel, Flat Creek Ranch is a MUST~

We were guests of owners Joe and Marcia. We were treated to an experience that can't otherwise be found. A trip back in time to the days of Cissy and Cal...the rich history of the place accessible through books and photos scattered throughout the cabins and lodge, not to mention the personal stories of our hosts. Superb food three meals square! Amazing and devoted staff. Beautiful views across the lake, and of Sleeping Indian from up close. Hikes in all directions, a host of other things to do ... definitely including sitting on your cabin deck and just savoring. A completely exquisite experience. I want to be there again.... NOW!!

There is no other place like this on earth. The hospitality was so gracious that you felt at once part of the family and a treasured guest. The combination make this a perfect place to relax and let the wonderful experiences unfold.

I was searching for a quiet vacation to celebrate a 50th birthday. I was looking for a special venue that could help provide memorable experiences, delicious food, peacefulness and romance. All of this came true at Flat Creek Ranch - and more. What I didn't expect to find were new friendships, little luxuries and the most caring staff imaginable.

Joe and Marcia set the first class tone for Flat Creek Ranch. They cater to every need. They seem to be creating an experience just as they would hope to find if they were guests. When Joe and Marcia aren't present they leave the ranch and the host responsibilities in the hands of Trey and Shelby. The experience with the different hosts is seamless. Trey and Shelby also build strong relations with each guest by accompanying us on fishing, hiking or horseback riding activities. The vacation works out like a well-orchestrated collaboration that provides ample opportunities for individual time and creativity with your schedule.

I would be glad to talk at length about the special qualities: morning coffee delivered on a tray to your cabin with a snip of wild flowers, bed made and fire restocked in your cabin during breakfast, small groups for longer horse rides, packed lunches for afternoon activities, elegant hors d'oeuvres and wine to recap the day prior to dinner, warm wood-fed sauna over the river (heated in advance by Marcia if the afternoon or evening is cool), flannel sheets and comfy mattress. You will be surprised at the cleanliness of the cabins: the floors are smooth and the log interiors are bright. The original windows slide on wood frames to let in the sunshine. You can't imagine making a single improvement because everything about it feels just right.

So for the 50th birthday we had a special dessert. It was a surprise for my partner and me. If you are coming for a birthday or special occasion, I know the staff will try to accommodate any request. But I didn't even expect this added level of service! It was hard to attribute the beautiful gesture to the chef or to Marcia and Joe - or was it just the way that things happen at Flat Creek Ranch?

Please go and enjoy. Take your best spirits (no complaining about the weather or things beyond your control) and be prepared to contribute to the experience. You will receive far more in return by bringing a great attitude and a lust for everything that Flat Creek Ranch has to offer.

If you love the Jackson Hole area but don't love all the traffic/people - but you don't want to camp - this is the place to be. Tucked in a secluded valley north of Jackson - where horse thieves once roamed - Flat Creek Ranch has 6 cabins and a max of 12 guests. Cabins are the restored originals from the 20s and 30s, with wood burning stoves, electricity, hot/cold water, comfortable furniture, and wonderful views of the stream, small lake, and mountains (but not the Tetons - need to hike up to see them). No sound of traffic, because the ranch lies up in a valley with no roads except the rough road that you take in the Ranch's 4WD to get there.

Perfect for those who hike, fly fish, horseback ride, paddle (on the lake), use the wood burning sauna, or just want to sit and stare at nature without seeing many other people. And who want three great meals a day (they do vegetarian well). Not perfect for those who want to blow dry their hair (solar/generator power doesn't allow), watch TV, or stay inside.

Excellent staff, from the owners and the co-managers, to the new chef, to the ranch hands who hike with you and lead horseback rides. Great knowledge of local history, fishing, riding, etc.

We stayed in the Josephine cabin, which has views of both the lake and stream (others, except the Cissy, mostly overlook the stream. Small bathroom, but the "washhouse" next door has full-size showers to supplement the clawfoot tub/shower in the cabin).

On your last day, consider walking out, if you like to hike. Your luggage goes in the truck and you have a beautiful 4 mile hike down hill. If you get motion sick, take something because the ride in is BUMPY.

We are already contemplating our return. July and August seem to be the best months in terms of weather and flowers.

Visiting Flat Creek Ranch was the trip of a life time. Imagine leaving the beauty of Jackson Hole and traveling back in time and into the wilderness to an elegantly rustic Shangri-la. The location is out of this world - the lovely cabins are surrounded by mountains and look out onto a beautiful lake and rushing stream. The hosts, Marsha, Joe, Shelby and Trey, and a great staff could not have been more accommodating - examples include joining us for dinner each night and regaling us with tales of the history of Flat Creek (very interesting historically), hikes in the mountains to catch a special glimpse of the Tetons, great horse back riding trips (good horses) and fly fishing expeditions.
This place is remote and yet you enjoy a number of great amenities, including gourmet food, a wood fired sauna and coffee delivered to your cabin every morning at 7 am.
This place is very special, as people have recognized over the years. I miss it already.

This was our third consecutive visit to Flat Creek, and we have already booked our vacation for next year. It is truly one of the most majestic & beautiful places we have ever stayed. The cabins are clean & comfortable and the meals are truly 5 star. No one would leave without shedding a tear or wishing their stay could have been just a bit longer. If you like to Fly fish, hike, horseback ride, or just sit back & relax, this is the place for you. Book now and enjoy your stay. You will not be disappointed.

Where do I start? The FCR is like no other place I've ever been. My family stayed at the ranch for four nights, arriving on a Monday afternoon and departing on Friday afternoon. It was just what we needed -- quality family time and an opportunity to enjoy nature’s incredible beauty and serenity. The FCR has a very interesting history, and one of the privileges of being a guest at the ranch is having Joe and Marcia--the owners and resident ranch historians share the history with you over dinner. The food at the ranch is simply terrific—the chefs Don and Kristen are top-grade. Freshly prepared, healthy, delicious meals--it's like having your own personal chef three times a day. Fresh coffee/tea is delivered to your door every morning --a very nice touch which my family appreciated. The cabins are very nice, clean and cozy--we loved them and the fresh mountain air had us sleeping like rocks every night. I can't say enough good things about the staff at FCR. It was clear to me that Joe & Marcia are picky about who they hire. Everyone has a great attitude, is service oriented, and just wants to make the guests happy. Special praise goes to Trey and Shelby (and their awesome dog Rio), who keep everything running well at the ranch, in addition to making terrific hike guides and fly fishing instructors. Let me give you an example of their service dedication. On day two we asked if they had any Smores ingredients at the ranch—you know-graham crackers, chocolate, marshmallows. They didn’t—it wasn’t a big deal to us, and we forgot about it. On our last night, Marcia announced that the guests were getting together for a bonfire after dinner. You guessed it—they had what we needed for Smores, and the whole group had a great time eating smores, making new friends and watching the beautiful sunset over the lake. What a terrific memory that is for us. Todd, the ranch hand also did a great job with the horse rides and took us through the prettiest country I’ve ever seen. In short, I can highly recommend the FCR to anyone who wants to get away from traffic, noisy restaurants, cell phones, texting (teenagers), and is looking to meet some very nice people and re-charge their batteries. It was just what the doctor ordered for my family, and I hope to return there someday. Thanks Joe, Marcia and staff for a wonderful stay, and thanks for preserving such a special place for others to enjoy.
