My wife and I spent 4 days at the ranch in July 2010 and loved it so much that we wanted to share it with our children. We returned with our three children (ages 16, 14 and 11) for a week in August 2011 and once again had a wonderful time. The ranch is very secluded and surrounded by spectacular scenery. I would describe the cabins as "rustic luxury"--very comfortable. We received three full meals every day, and the food was uniformly excellent. Having coffee or hot chocolate delivered to our front porch every morning was a great way to start the day. There are primarily three activities--fishing, hiking and riding horses, but the itinerary is quite relaxed and often tailored to what various guests would like to do. Joe and Marsha, the owners, and Trey and Shelby, the ranch managers, are wonderful hosts and they and the staff create a welcoming and relaxing environment. We definitely plan to return. We whole-heartedly recommend Flat Creek Ranch.

Our 10th anniversary experience at Flat Creek was EXACTLY what we needed to truly get away and experience the beauty of Wyoming's backcountry. Anyone wanting to escape the fast pace of life, needs a few days at this restored hideaway from the past. If you think you need a TV, phone, or luxuries of a 5 star hotel to enjoy yourself, this isn't your spot. But if you're looking for amazing food, a tremendous staff, outdoor adventures, wildlife, beautiful scenery and a view of the night sky like you've never seen....this is your place!
We'll be back!

Room Tip: Josephine cabin has the best view, but the least amenities....it's worth it!

Our 40th wedding anniversary at Flat Creek Ranch surpassed all expectations, a vacation of a lifetime! The Ranch is located up a long rutted dirt road where it’s difficult to get to speeds over ten miles an hour, in a beautiful, pristine valley holding a snow-fed lake spilling over into the Creek that runs by the wood-fired sauna and guest cabins, with an abundance of wild flowers in mid-July. Pictures on the internet site do not do it justice. Our group of family and friends (we were glad we didn't bring children, the ranch is not geared for kids under 12) rented the five comfortable, well-appointed log cabins located with maximum views and privacy, each having a claw tub with handmade soaps and creams. We were free to do nothing and everything: from various hikes requiring different levels of skill (a staff member was always available as a guide), fly fishing (none of us had ever done it before, but Trey, a recognized expert who seemed to catch a fish with every flick of his wrist, gave us the training and confidence to put on our waders and cast away), horseback riding on trails that went up and down, winding through forest and meadows (Todd was a master at making everyone feel comfortable regardless of skill), canoeing on the lake, to just plain relaxing and reading or sunning on one of the many porches.

And don’t worry about eating. Besides having a tray of hot coffee, tea, or chocolate delivered to your cabin, the chefs, Don and Stefan, prepared varied and delicious meals, any one of which could have been served at an upscale restaurant. The owners and managers ate with us at a big table, which overflowed with lively conversation where we learned about their many experiences and the Ranch’s strange history. The entire staff was friendly, flexible, and treated us like family. In between meals, snacks and a candy jar were always available, and one could always wander into the kitchen for cold drinks.

Day packs, trekking poles, and water bottles are supplied, but we recommend bringing sun screen, sun glasses, tie-on brimmed hats, and bug spray (although some thought insects weren’t a problem and drifted to sleep with windows open listening to the Creek during 50-degree star-filled nights). Pack light, casual clothes that can be layered worked perfectly all week. Overall: 10+!

Flat Creek Ranch was a perfect selection for "down time" while still enjoying beautiful scenery, a little adventure, and wonderful food. The cabin (Cissy Cabin) was beautiful and comfortable. The staff and owners were stellar. Quality of service was top notch. Coffee was brought steaming to the cabin each morning, a nice touch very much appreciated. The ranch provided wonderful, impressively steady horses for the trail ride (which was not boring in the least), and high quality equipment for fly fishing (it was nice not to have to lug waders, boots, etc. on the plane). Both the fly fishing (lots of native trout in both the stream and lake) and horseback riding were highlights of our stay. They even had a drift boat for the lake - I was able to check off fishing from a drift boat off my "list". A great deal of attention was paid to the quality of the ingredients/selections for the beer, wine, h'ordeuvres, and meals. Our fellow guests were also a pleasure. We appreciated the small intimate setting and limited number of cabins and guests. Would strongly recommend a stay at the ranch. The road in is a little bumpy, but simply adds to the adventure.

We recently stayed and celebrated a family wedding at Flat Creek Ranch. Amazing, perfect, wonderful, breath-taking, and beautiful best describe our experience there. We brought our 5th grade son and 2nd grade daughter with us. They loved the horseback riding and hiking. The fishing, which can be as close as right outside your cabin door, is unbelievable. The lodge and cabins are beautiful and stepping foot inside them takes you back in time. The sauna, which sits out over Flat Creek, totally relaxes you until you allow 70 gallons of glacial creek water to shower over you. If you are looking for a mountain experience you cannot do better than Flat Creek Ranch. The drive in reminds you that you are truly entering the wilderness. The cabins and lodge are perfect. The staff and food are amazing. The fishing, horseback riding, hiking and other activities are world-class. Enjoy!

Room Tip: All the cabins are great. Ours sat right on the creek which allowed us to fall asleep to the sound...

If you are looking for a beautiful getaway in Wyoming’s Wilderness and want to be well taken care of….this is your place.
Located 10 miles (or so) into mountains outside Jackson Hole is where you will find Flat Creek Ranch. They advertise themselves as “Your Own Private Wilderness” which could not be a more perfect description.

Gourmet food
Every single meal we ate at F.C.R was outstanding. Chief Donny Cash, it hit it out of the park! When my wife told me we would have Gourmet Food…I was thinking yeah right. Boy way I wrong! A+ on the food.

Lodging
We stayed in the Josephine cabin. Beautiful log cabin located across the stream from the sauna and overlooking the lake. Wood burning stove for the any chilly weather you may encounter. Comfortable bed, plenty of blankets, beautiful living room with couches and tables, etc…could not ask for anything more. A+

Activities (that we did...there are many more to choose from)

Fly Fishing – I can’t imagine a better environment for fly fishing. My wife and I caught several trout and neither of us had ever fly fished before. Trey was a fantastic instructor and shows a deep respect for the wilderness he was working in. A+

Horseback riding
This was not my first horseback riding experience but it was for many of the other guests (5 total couples). Todd the wrangler set up the horses and helped make all the newbie’s very comfortable on the trail ride we took. This is NOT your average trail ride…you are actually going through streams, up and down mountains and through some of the most beautiful scenery I ever seen. A+

Sleeping Indian Hike – to the top of the nose
Saving the best for last (in my opinion) …the hike up Sleeping Indian. This was NOT my idea it was the dream child of my very active VERY fit wife. She talked me into doing this hike about halfway through our stay. I did not want to do this but knew she really wanted to so I agreed to it.
We took the guided option which cost $100.00 but was way to go. Robin was our guide and there is NO chance either of us would have been able to do this without his knowledge, experience and support. This is not an easy hike, it’s about 4 miles and 4,000 vertical feet in elevation rise.
I’m not in great shape and it was not easy coming from Nashville (600 ft above sea level) but I’m happy to have done it. Like I said, it turned out to be one of the biggest highlights of our trip. Thanks to Robin and Shelby’s advice on how much water, clothing, etc it was a comfortable (but tough) day hike. Total time should take between 6 to 8 hours to get up and down. A+

P.S. - on this reveiw form there is a question about a fitness center ... you DO NOT need a fitness center at Flat Creek.... but I've left it blank because there is not an actual Fitness center expect for the mountain trails, etc.

Overall Hospitality –
Joe and Marsha the owners of this beautiful place could not be nicer or more in tuned with how a vacation experience should go. Every little need is more than taken care of…coffee/tea delivered to your cabin at 7:15, wine, beer and appetizers served nightly an hour before dinner, a beverage refrigerator that is accessible 24 hours a day (no need to mark when you take a beer, it’s included), sauna stoked up on 30mins notice, etc.
Book this for your next wilderness getaway when in the Jackson area… you will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: You can't go wrong on the cabin selection they are all close and each one has beautiful views

I think i had some idea what to expect because of the price, but really couldn't appreciate what five cabins and a maximum of twelve people can feel like until among them. Road up to ranch is as advertising. It's a Jeep road that will challenge any four wheeler. We drove a Lexus SUV up to the camp and while it handle the road well. I had Joe drive us back down at the end of our stay.
Wine? Great. Food? Excellent. Corn on the cob loaded with mayonnaise, cheese, salt was unbelievable. Staff? Couldn't be nicer. Owners? There and fabulous. Scenery? You simply don't want to leave.
We've stayed at many ranches. This is one of a kind. Just wish I could bring back more people at the same time. My quandry is what twelve people to bring along when it could be 100!
