Description: The Blue Lion was built as a residential home in the late 1930's, in 1974 it became The Tourist Trap restaurant and then in 1976 The Blue Lion. I bought it in 1978 after graduating college. The Blue Lion has evolved a lot since those early days mostly due to retired head chef, Tim Libassi who's was with me for almost 25 years. We continue to add and change dishes semi-annually. The lamb, elk and fresh fish are our biggest sellers. There was a restaurant in southern California where I grew up that served mud pie and my mother made a home made hot fudge sauce which we incorporated into our own version of mud pie, a local favorite. The restaurant has been enlarged several times, the upstairs dining, the kitchen, the waiting area and the outdoor deck. In the winter The Blue Lion can accommodate 60 diners at one time. In the summer we open the deck enabling us to accommodate 80 diner. We are open nightly at 5:30 and usually feature an acoustical guitarist as entertainment.

We really lucked out!!! We went to this restaurant the last day of the ski season, and found that they were offering a 2 for 1 since their business had slowed down due to being the end of the season. Since the entrees run around $36.00, this was a great deal for us. Food is too fabulous to detail. The sesame basil vinaigrette salad dressing was to DIE for, the chocolate mousse was melt in your mouth. Check this place out you will not be disappointed.

We stopped in without reservations when we vacationed in Jackson. No reservations, but they squeezed us in. We really enjoyed the outdoor seating! I had the buffalo T-bone, and my husband had the lamb chops. The buffalo was juicy, and the sauce was delish!!! The lamb chops stole the show though!! We followed others advice and ordered the lamb....WOW!! My husband wants to make a trip back to Jackson just so he can got the Blue Lion for the lamb. If you make it to Jackson, make a trip to Blue Lion just for the lamb chops!!

The Blue Lion is considered one of the best in Jackson and so we reserved a table a couple of days earlier.
This is an expensive restaurant but there is an early bird special, between 5.30 and 6.00pm (20% discount) is available. Be warned you have to mention this to the wait staff, they did not mention it without our prompting.
The atmosphere in the restaurant is excellent and the service very good.
Our food consisted of a shared starter of Santa Fe Duck cakes which were very good, just the right amount of taste. This was followed by a pleasant salad.
For main meals we chose, Ono, a firm white fish crusted and fried , and Trout which came with a delicious shrimp, pistachio and fresh basil cream sauce. Both meals came with properly cooked asparagus and wild rice.
A shared desert of Russian Cream finished a most delicious dinner.
The menu is comprehensive and it was easy to see many dishes that appealed.
The Riesling (German) and the Pinot Noir (Californian) were both good.
The only downside was the wine service. The table when we arrived had nice crystal wine glasses in the setting but when we both ordered a glass (different wines) of wine these glasses were whisked away and the wine was returned, never saw the bottle the wine came from, in some rather sturdy, smaller glasses. This raises two points we feel quite strongly about.
The first is what was wrong with the fine crystal glasses that were on the table and which were a much better glass for providing a better experience, ie; the bouquet. We noticed that other tables near us ordered a bottle and were left with their more suitable glasses.
Secondly we believe that wine by the glass should always be poured at the table and not out at the bar. Other fine dining in Jackson carried service out this way.
However overall this was a fine dining experience, well worth the expense, and made our last night in Jackson a memorable one.
Would we go again? – definitely yes, although I might be bold enough to ask for the better glasses!!

The Blue Lion Restaurant in Jackson Hole Wyoming provides great food at reasonable prices. The restaurant is located in a home built in the 1920s and the tables are somewhat close. But the wine list is superb and the food was outstanding including a wide selection of local game. Classical guitar music played by a local cowboy in the adjoining wine bar only added to the atmosphere. While in Jackson Hole we ate at another "upscale" restaurant (Snake River Grill) but it wasn't nearly as good even though it was nearly twice as expensive. We highly recommend the Blue Lion and be sure to get a reservation because it fills up nearly every night.
