“Expensive for just a few unnecessary frills”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 11, 2009

Expensive in an expensive area. Cancellation policy is basically, you lose all your money. Rooms clean, roomy, adequate, just standard hotel rooms except for cute western-y lampshades. Close to the center of town, but on the busier side which I did not prefer. Breakfast was cake donuts, mini muffins and fruit stacked up on a table in the lobby (plus coffee, tea, juice) - not very appealing, no place to eat. Coffee and tea are available 24/7. Indoor pool is ok. Computer available in the lobby. We had to ask for an ironing board, then pick it up ourselves, and it was just a tiny tabletop board. No microwave or fridge. This room was fine but not worth the extra price we paid compared to the no-frills Golden Eagle Inn on the quieter side of downtown.

PBIManager, General Manager at Painted Buffalo Inn, responded to this review, August 13, 2009
Thank you for staying with us! I am sorry you felt the price was too steep - we do try to stay competitively priced with similar hotels (location, pool, pet friendly) in Jackson. Our cancellation policy (10% of first night anytime outside 48 hrs prior to arrival, entire first night inside 48 hrs prior to arrival) is indeed pretty strict but, again, we are right in line with what you can expect from other hotels in Jackson. I am sorry you did not receive the information about the free microwaves and fridges available upon request. We do post signs in the lobby advertising this as well as include this on the hotel information sheets located in the rooms. Though we do only offer a light continental breakfast within a limited space, we do provide trays in all the rooms and we invite you to use these to load up on breakfast items and enjoy breakfast in bed! And finally, though we are located on the main road in Jackson, close to all the action, and though the traffic dies down at about 9pm, we do understand some people are more sensitive to noise than others. Our property is quite large so if you decide to return we encourage you to request a room away from the road and we would be happy to provide you with a quieter room better suited to your needs!

Our dead bolt wouldn't open. Our baby cried and we couldn't go out for a walk. The maintenance manager said we should've slept through it. He insisted that we overlook the door issue and focus on the value of the hotel. So here's the value I found, the doors still operate on standard keys made by a locksmith to which there is no key for the dead bolt. The only way to open it is with a screwdriver and knife. The pool is indoor and has no circulation. The view from the pool is into the first floor rooms and car access between the buildings. The continental breakfast was a mini doughnut or muffin that were the size of hostess packaged doughnuts, juice and coffee. The room was so outdated, well the door couldn't open after it was locked, the TV mounted to the dresser in that if someone not directly in front of the TV wanted to watch, you had to pick up the whole dresser and move it. This is the so called value that the maintenance manager insisted we consider and ignore the fact that it was a complete fire hazard for us to not be able to have access in or out at our own leisure, after all that is why we stayed at the hotel was a getaway to Jackson and leisure vacation only to be ruined by the WORST SERVICE EVER!!

PBIManager, General Manager at Painted Buffalo Inn, responded to this review, August 10, 2009
Thank you for allowing me to address the concerns brought forth in this review. First I wish to address the problem of the door. While I will not disagree that the dead bolt was sticky, the general manager (myself) and an off duty employee did come to the property at 1:30am to help fix the problem. At that point our help was refused by the guest. Though I understand it was inconvenient, with 137 rooms, it is very difficult to predict which rooms are going to have maintenance issues. It has always been the Painted Buffalo Inn's policy to discount guests only if we are unable to fix their problems. In this case the staff was on hand to fix any issue since we are open 24 hours and additional help was called in to fix the problem as soon as we were made aware of it. Since bringing this problem to our attention, that particular deadbolt has been replaced so again, I do appreciate being made aware of the problem by the guest. The guest was also compensated for their inconvenience before checking out of the hotel. As to the other issues, you will find many hotels in Jackson still do operate with the old-fashioned keys. The indoor pool has a ventilation system as well as several windows which can be opened for additional circulation. We do offer a light continental breakfast within our means. Though we do not have much space we do what we can. We do wish that some of the complaints brought forth in this review had been given to us at the time of stay so we would have had a chance to discuss them in person with the guest. The maintenance manager in question has since been dismissed. We look forward to hosting this guest again so we can provide them with the exceptional customer service we are known for.

The employees at the Painted Buffalo were very friendly and very helpful, answered lots of questions and seemed to enjoy talking to the customers. The rooms weren't overly priced, the location is about two blocks from the square so it was easy to walk. We requested a downstairs room and regretted it the whole night. It sounded like the people above us were stomping around the entire evening. I don't think they were being exceptionally loud but I think the floors were horribly thin. Not only that but the water in the rooms was incredibly loud. Every time the people next to us took a shower or went to the bathroom we heard a very loud wailing noise - it was awful. We probably could have called and been moved but we were so tired we just wanted to rest. Unfortunatly that didn't happen, the people above us stayed up late and the people next to us got up about 5 and started showering. The people in the room next to us (and their friends) parked their motorcycles in the parking space directly in front of our room because it was the closest they could get to their room, so from about 5:30 am on they were right outside our window talking by their bikes. The hotel was 'ok', the walls and floors were way too thin but we probably would have been happier if we had stayed on the 2nd floor. Overall, it was all right.

The room was clean enough and the toiletries and supplies above average. Even though it was a nonsmoking room, it had a mild smell of old smoke and disinfectant, like older hotels sometimes do. The lockation is very convenient. I had mistakenly thought the hotel had a free airport shurrle, but that is not the case. The town has a shuttle service from the airport to the hotel and the rate was $17. Good television, very good room amenities, nice lobby and good, light continental breakfast consisting of fruit, muffins, donuts and juice.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Jackson. Besides the Wort, it was one of the most conveniently located places on the main road. The staff was great! And, after a long day of exploring, shopping, and eating, it is a clean place to lay your head! And, if all that does not tire you out, there is an indoor pool.

I think everyone should stay here!

We stayed here at the beginning of May and found it to be pleasant and comfortable. We made a reservation online and were a bit skeptical based on past reviews but the majority of the really bad ones seemed to be years old so we gave them the benefit of the doubt and decided to stay. And we were very pleased. The staff was extremely friendly, the lobby is beautiful and the rooms were larger than other rooms we encountered on our trip. The location was perfect- close enough to downtown without being right in the middle of the madness. Parking and noise were not a problem for us but the hotel did not seem very busy so that may have helped. The pool is great and the cafe on the corner was amazing. Will definitely stay here again when we visit Yellowstone which is less than an hour away!
