“Good German style food”
Reviewed March 19, 2013

The food at this Austrian resturant was very good but the price is on the steep side. We ate in the bar area as recommended by our Austrian ski instructor to get a more authentic vibe. We lived in Southern Germany for a couple of years and really enjoyed the food and beer. Most food in this area is very basic and simple. Steiglers has most popular dishes but also some upscale culinary variations. Also has one brand of German beer on tap in three styles, cant recall brewrey .

“lost in time”
Reviewed March 11, 2013

We went to Stiegler's for the first time and invited another couple to go with us. Despite high expectations, we were not only disappointed, but a little embarrassed by the experience. The prices were very high, but we knew that going in, so prices alone were not the problem. And the atmosphere was pretty nice - old world with some charm. Unfortunately a restaurant experience is ultimately about the food (and service), neither of which measured up to Jackson Hole standards. The salads were just ok and the main courses were just ok at best. By desert time, we had had enough and passed. The food did not appear to be particularly fresh and the presentation was very dated - it felt like we had stepped into a diner in the 60's. The service alternated between overdone (lots of coaching on the initial order with too much upselling) and underdone with long periods of wondering what had happened to our waiter (on a night that wasn't that busy). Jackson Hole has so many good restaurants from fine dining to local's hangouts with casual dining but great food that we won't be going back to Stiegler's. I understand that the owner is a nice man and that his brother is a local sports hero, so I reluctantly give this negative review, but it just not good food or service, and definitely was not worth the prices charged.

“Cold, outdated, tasteless”
Reviewed February 5, 2013

Someone at Stiegler's needs to revisit the homeland! On our first trip to Jackson Hole, Stiegler's seemed to be the #1 recommendation of locals when asked for "the best restaurant." Whoops!

After a long day of skiing we were looking forward to some classic Austrian fare, good wine and quiet relaxation. Our first clue about what was to come should have been the staff dressed in "authentic" Austrian outfits. From paste-like potato, bacon, onion dumplings to the "classic" wienerschnitzel to a pre-plated "Caesar" salad, our food was uniformly tasteless and uninspired.

At these prices, we expected true Austrian classics-- not badly executed attempts at the classics nor half-hearted attempts at modernizing dishes that require none. But if updating was supposed to be the goal, execution killed any good ideas that might have been trying to emerge. The hot and cold dishes were served at the same temperature --lukewarm. A steamed, unseasoned piece of cauliflower was plopped on each plate. The promised crispy exterior on the tournadoes was not crisp at all, but mealy, soft and undercooked. The light breading on the veal was tasteless. Even the bread basket was a disappointment; stale baguette-type bread, tiny pieces of good rye and butter cut into neat triangles with a sprig of some herb was about as up-to-date as the Archduke. In an age when most good restaurants are removing salt and pepper from the table as a (sometimes unworthy) nod to the expertise of their chef, we were grateful both were on our table. And we used 'em!

Our charming waitress was very good at upselling the menu so we can't blame her for doing such a good job--we went for it all but had come to our senses by the time dessert rolled around. One (kind of) Viennese dessert managed to find its way onto the menu but we bailed before we fell for any hype again.

My husband and I joked about just returning from a month on France and being spoiled by good food, but were brought back to reality when we realized our local NJ diner served tastier, more innovative dishes at half the price.

Save your money. Our bill, including tip, ran almost $200. We agreed we would have been upset if we had paid $40 for the meal at our local bar...

“Stiegler's Consistent Quality”
Reviewed January 30, 2013

If you like Austrian food, Pepi Stiegler's (famous Austrian skiier) outside of Jackson Hole in Wilson, WY offers high quality and good variety. It's been there for years and remains consistent in good food, nice ambiance, and friendly staff (Pepi's brother Peter greeted us at the door). The Veal Paprika was quite good.
