“Best Grand Teton views in Jackson Hole!”
Reviewed December 15, 2011

From my first visit in 1989 to this past October, Jackson Hole is right at the top of my list of favorite places on earth. There is not a more dramatic mountain range than the Tetons and no better place to see them bathed in early morning sunlight, with a cup of coffee in your hand, than from the deck of a room at Spring Creek Ranch.

The rooms are spacious, well appointed and clean. There are newer, fancier hotels in Jackson but none with the views, wildlife and outdoor activities that brings us to JH in the first place.

With frequent free shuttles to the slopes one can combine fabulous views of the mountains, sitting in front of a cozy fireplace in their room, with an active day on the slopes.

Whether you are coming to JH for a business meeting or pleasure, Spring Creek will not disappoint and might be a top of the list experience!

We made our reservations for this hotel based on a recommendation from a friend. The location is lovely because it's high above the plains and the views can be marvelous. Weather permitting. The view from the restaurant is particularly spectacular so we thought we would be in for a treat. Unfortunately we were wrong. Our room was dark - there was not enough lighting in the room at all - and it was definitely time to replace the mattress. (Very uncomfortable.) The restaurant with the view? It was closed - at least for the week we were there. (There was nothing about that closure on their website when I made the reservations.) The final blow - which of course was NOT the fault of the hotel - was the low clouds that removed any and all view opportunities. I definitely would not wish to stay there again.

This "ranch" is right next door to Amangani, and some of their rooms have just as good, if not better views on the butte. Rooms a bit outdated and the heat is cranked up (!), so bring your water bottle to stay hydrated. If you stay here, keep in mind, you will have to lug your bags from your car, on poorly maintained sidewalks, and upstairs (if you are on the top floor). We did this in the pouring rain - yuck! Lighting throughout the ranch is not great either, so probably not the best spot for older folks with unstable balance.
The best perk: you can stay here for a fraction of the price of Amangani, but walk right next door to enjoy their food/wine/views, etc. It's a win-win.

Expect a basically furnished room. No flat screen, no down comforter, no iPod hook up. But it has the charm. The views are jaw dropping, the real wood fireplace is beyond compare to an gas switch flipper...and again the views are unparalleled. Eat at the granary and have fantastic service (Cody and Jackie) and delicious food with again- views of the mountains and valley which are completely gorgeous. Also, matt at the front desk was more than helpful and allowed us to check out late- but keep in mind- this is the off season!

This was my second trip to Spring Creek Ranch. This time i stayed in a two bedroom, two bath condo. The condo was impeccably maintained, clean and inviting. The living room and one of the bedrooms looked out onto the Teton range. Both bedrooms & baths were, clean, spacious & comfortable. (The mattresses are the 'old style' thinnish kind and I could feel some springs in them, but I still slept well). Sheets & towels of good quality; makeup mirror; nice amenities. A total of 3 flat screen TVs. Very well equipped kitchen (we didn't use it). I like the western decor & ambiance. The meal plan at this hotel is one of life's great bargains. Go when SCR is running a special and your high quality meals are free (B & D only, not L). I found all the personnel to be pleasant & helpful. The views are spectacular from the entire property.

We stayed here June 13 & 14 at the midpoint of our two-week, 4,000-mile road trip from Chicago thru the Dakotas, Montana, Wyoming, and even into Idaho – and back. …

Jackson/Hole with 2 grade-school aged children was by far the most challenging area to nail down a best-guess reservation because it seemed like reviews of every affordable hotel in this area presented legitimate cons. Not every place has a pool (which is important on a long trip w/kids); Teton Village seemed better for the winter instead of summer; the ranches & B&Bs seemed tempting, but we were only going to be around for a couple days ...

Over our two weeks in the West, we stayed in all types of places –motel-quality rooms; Hampton Inns; the historic grand dames of Yellowstone. And then there was what my wife called “Western Chic,” where we’d spend decent enough money – $275 per night – for comfort with a Wyoming flair. I ultimately chose Spring Creek Ranch, tho I was leery because of the reviews that described the place as not a typical hotel experience, but more of “a mixture of housing types including private residences …” some of which resembled “lockout timeshare unit[s].”

But I’m happy to say we made the right choice with Spring Creek Ranch and our standard, 2-Queen, second-floor room with an AMAZING view. It's true, this is not a typical hotel setup. But the overall experience fit the bill for “Western Chic.” SCR overlooks the Jackson Land and Cattle ranch atop the East Gros Ventre Butte. It is beautiful. The property was sprayed with the color of yellow wildflowers in June. At night you hear the cattle lowing and can see the twinkling lights of the Jackson Hole airport, and of course everything is framed by the Teton Range. Next door is the Asian-style Amangani luxury property. I couldn’t tell what, but new construction of some sort was going up nearby. … The heart of Jackson is an easy 5-to-10 minute drive.

The weather was sketchy the afternoon we arrived from Yellowstone – it was rainy, and views of the mountains were enveloped in clouds. (The value of SCR takes a big hit when the mountains disappear.) This was the very end of the spring off-season, the place was not at full guest capacity, but we still had to wait until the clock struck check-in time to get to our room. The gentleman working the front desk was INCREDIBLY snooty and indifferent. While we waited at the Granary bar, we got to listen to the bartender whine to a friend about how difficult his job is. Not a great start.

The fireplace was a major highlight of our room (No. 2204), which maybe could have been considered somewhat plain, but it had enough hints of Western decor. We were happy with it. ... Tho I hadn’t built a fire since I was a teenager living with my parents, I got some nice ones roaring. How could I not? The large woodpiles on the front porches to the rooms were too inviting! … But SCR really expects that you know what to do with a flue. We didn’t have any problems, but the poor folks next door and another couple in a neighboring unit sure did – their smoke alarms were screeching throughout the night. Would it be too much to offer a refresher course to guests and offer to start a nice fire for them? For $275 and up? ...

Our second day was a completely different story and we basked in SCR’s full glory. While we ate a wonderful breakfast at the Granary the fog burned off to unveil the breathtaking view of the Tetons. My wife later enjoyed a message offered by SCR’s spa service. Over at the adjacent horse ranch, my boys rode for the very first time and said it was one of the top highlights of the entire trip. They later let off some steam at the small but heated outdoor pool. I got my fill of touring some scenic vistas of the Tetons with tons of amazing photos. SCR is a nice, easy drive from Grand Teton NP Visitors Center in Moose …

Again, these were Days 10 & 11 of a 15-day road trip, sandwiched between a busy & exciting stint at Yellowstone NP and our inevitable journey back to the Midwest. We needed comfort and a place to rest & relax before a long stretch of driving. And, for us, Spring Creek Ranch delivered.

Room Tip: We confirmed ahead that we'd have a view of the mountains from our balcony. Also, previous revie...

This place is amazing. There is a real fireplace with logs outside the door... we had a cozy fire at the tail-end of summer! The breakfast was delicious and beautifully-presented. The studio unit I had was clean and immediately comfortable. Sitting outside on the deck, you couldn't hear any of the neighbors, the view was stunningly unreal--it really felt like you owned the place. The staff was very helpful, relaxed, and friendly. Location feels like a far-off escape, yet it is only minutes to the center of Jackson. Sincerely, it is the ideal place to stay if you are traveling to the Tetons.
