OMG what a wonderful experience. The elk pretty much ignore you while you are on a horse drawn sleigh. Great photo opportunities, we also were graced by 2 coyotes and trumpeter swans. The elk are free to come and go but stay here for the winter as it was there natural habitat and now they get extra food as well.

We did the winter sleigh ride tour in March. Even though March has warmer temps, dress very warmly! When you are sitting out there in the wind you'll get chilled. They provide blankets to help. The guide was very informative and helpful. We took the sleigh out into the herd. The elk didn't seem to mind that we were just feet away from them. We got some great pictures of these awesome animals.

My wife and I had an enjoyable and informative visit to the refuge. Our driver was very knowledgeable and answered all the questions that were posed to him. Visiting the refuge is great for the whole family.

Wonderful experience! Our guide was very informative and interesting. Over 8000 elk were on the refuge, so plenty of elk and plenty of wonderful close-up photo opportunities. We also saw bald eagles and coyotes.
Some people mention the bison, there were over 800 bison on the refuge but they are kept seperate and we did not see them on the sleigh.
The wood blankets they provide help alot but dress warm. I used hand warmers which help alot since I usually take my gloves off the use my camera.
I will go again the next time I'm in Jackson.
