Don't drive by without stopping. Start with all the beautiful outdoor sculptures that have been displayed on the grounds. The treasures inside will delight your eyes and peak your interest in western art.

This museum is well-thought out in every way. The outside is based on a Scottish castle gone a little 20th century. Huge animal sculptures. Inside: there is an audio guide you can use or just look at the quality paintings and sculptures in the galleries. There is a cafe, a children's museum and the whole place is beautifully arranged. A modern museum in every sense of the word. If you love the outdoors and animals you will love this museum. And it has a great view of the National Elk Preserve (note: they come down to the preserve in the fall so no elk there in the summer).

We arrived too late to enter the museum but enjoyed the outdoor sculptures and the views overlooking the elk refuge. So, even if it is closed, drive up to it and have a look around. I wish museums that are close to town would realize that in an area of great beauty and great weather, we want to be out hiking or on scenic drives during the day, not spending precious daylight inside a museum. Would have loved visiting it in the evening.

We do not normally spend much time in art galleries but this one is unique. A variety of wildlife art exhibits in different mediums , spacious galleries, interesting notes on the artists and all set in a wonderful setting overlooking the National Elk Refuge. Local artists were at work while we were there and they were very interesting to talk too.

A must when visiting the area. Beautiful exhibits, both permanent and traveling. The museums is on the way to Teton and Yellowstone if coming from Jackson. Can't miss it. Take the time and enjoy the art.
