“Great hotel!! Wouldnt stay anywhere else in Jackson!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 12, 2009

We have been staying at the Virginian for years & would never stay anywhere else! The staff takes amazing care of us! Weather we go down with a bunch of our friends or with our children we have never been disapointed! This is a very down to earth hotel! They keep it clean & keep it nice without inposing on your stay! Every time we went to the front desk with a question or request we were greeted happiley & taken care of promptly! If you are on a budget this is a great place to stay! Their restaurant is affordable, nice, & has great food!( the kind that feels you up!) Their rooms are nice-not flashy but very usable & clean-all with outdoor enterances creates a little more privacy! Every year in march we get ten+ rooms & every summer we come back as a family to stay again! This is our home away from home!

This was the worst hotel we have ever stayed at. The bathroom shower curtain had mold and there was urine on the floor. The rooms are old and musty and very dark. The blanket had a cigarette burn hole. We tried to cancel our reservation when we saw the room but the management would not let us. We stayed one night and cancelled the rest of our stay. We went to Snow King Resort and payed LESS for a suite than we payed for one night at this filthy hotel. One thing that is positive is the restaurant had good food with reasonable prices.

Stayed here before and after a backcountry hike into the Tetons. A quintessential 1960's motel that has been kept up very nicely. Away from the craziness of downtown Jackson Hole. Wonderful staff, GREAT breakfast next door. BEST HOT CAKES in the West ! AWESOME. Me and my buddies were glad for a soft bed after tent camping. Bed's were very comfortable. Nothing fancy but met all our needs just fine !

We were only there for one night. The price for the stay was very reasonable for the area. It was older but in a good location and well maintained. We liked our room set-up, which had the bathroom unexposed to the door to the room, bu the sink area was separate from the shower area by a door. The lobby seating area was comfortable and inviting. The hot chocolate and coffee was a nice touch. The front desk folks were friendly and helpful. They knew the area and were willing to answer questions.

I booked this hotel because the price was attractive for the very expensive Jackson area, I wish I had not. The property is very old and run down and we did not feel safe. I would spend the extra money and stay somewhere else. It was not worth the $119.00 per night, I wanted to check out right away!!

My wife & I stayed for three mights because the wedding hosts routed their guests to the Virginian. During that same trip we stayed at other lodges in other locations as well, and in every case the others offered much more for about $40 less per night than what the Virginian charged.
Coffee maker? Not at the Virginian. Refrigerator? Out of luck. Microwave? Nope. Ironing board? Not a chance. Complimentary breakfast? Nothing of the sort.
From the looks of things the owners of this lodge have decided not to invest in their guests' actual experience of their accommodations. Apparently the high volume of Jackson Hole's year-round tourist trade keeps rooms at the Virginian filled regardless of the quality of this establishment.
Now that we've seen it for ourselves, we'll likely be returning to Jackson Hole. But certainly not to the Virginian.

During our three week US-roundtrip the Virgininian Lodge was our priciest and also our most disappointing stay. You just get too little for too much money (even considering the fact that luxurious Jackson Hole is part of the package). The reception/facade is stylish, the pool is okay (although overcrowded), but that's about it. No breakfast included and the rooms are empty: no fridge, no microwave, even no coffeemaker. The bathroom was a wreck. The staff reacted strange when I asked them to store our cool packs in their freezer, something that was not a problem in all the cheap hotels (which offered much more) we'd stayed until then. We got a room at the backside of the hotel; our view was a caravan park... However worst of all was the atmosphere. Those large and dark barracks remembered me at my time with the military. It gave me that lost feeling of anonymity to be honest.
Later on we found out that Jackson Hole has a lot better and more cozy places to stay. Most of them had vacancies (end of June) so we were pretty sorry we booked in advance at the Virginian Lodge. We definitely won't come back!
