We were thankful to find this place after driving in the dark through pouring rain and a Flash Flood Warning on the way from Deadwood (all hotels there were booked for a car show). The gal working at the desk when we checked in was very friendly and helpful. She even gave us keys to the last 2 rooms available so we could choose which we preferred. We just needed beds and a bathroom so took the one with 2 doubles for $88. The room was clean and cozy, had a fridge, microwave, WiFi and a TV. The Direct TV only got local network stations-anything above that got an error code. Our experience in the morning was the reason for the poor rating. Nobody was around the desk when wet went to check out. We were antsy to get on the road after eating at their cafe (separate review for Red Rock Cafe). We waited over 10 minutes for anyone to show up and even called the motel's main phone number to try to reach someone to no avail. We ended up leaving the keys in the office and leaving a message on the machine telling them we had checked out.

We apologize for not being at the front desk to assist you with checkout. We are a family owned and operated business. We are on the property doing grounds maintenance, tidying up and improvements from 8am - 10pm during the summer and fall months. We sincerely hope to see you again! Thank you for your understanding.

Stayed there for a one night stay on the way to Devil's Tower in mid July. Can't say enough good things about this place....it's an excellent place to stay. Clean, up to date, quiet, rooms are cozy, but big enough for us (family of 6). The place is just awsome, it's got a really nice western charm about it too.

Excellent value for the money. Would definitely recommend and stay again.

We booked a chalet and it was very cute. I knew it would be small (it is, just a bed, sink and a small closet with a toilet and stand up shower) and was prepared for that. It was incredibly clean and check in was a breeze. I was worried about there only being a small A/C but it got the job done. The chalets face a small stream and the view was amazing. It was very quiet. Hulett is a very small town and we were able to walk to dinner. Great location. Only con- we left early in the morning and no one was available in the front office. Also, I couldn't find anywhere to leave the key. I ended up leaving it in the room and leaving a message for the owner.

Our favorite place we stayed during our two-week road trip. Very near to Devil's Tower, and on the way to Mt. Rushmore when traveling west to east. Nicely decorated room, decent rates and a quaint restaurant with good food. We will stay there again if the opportunity ever presents itself again.

We stumbled upon the Hulett Motel after visiting Devils Tower and traveling back towards South Dakota. We had no trouble getting a room without a reservation. We chose one of the swiss chalet style cabins overlooking the river over the more traditional motel style rooms. The cabin was cozy and decorated to compliment its location in the Black Hills. The front porch overlooked a grassy area and then the shallow river bank close by. There is a very nice little restaurant attached to the motel with good food and both inside and outside seating. We sat outside and enjoyed conversation with other travelers as well as locals out for the evening. A good night's rest in a really nice place!

Room tip: The cabins are cute and the view of the river is very pretty.
