It was a nice, clean hotel, breakfast was nice, sadly no microwave or refrigerator, front lady was a very rude! That didn't make me feel very welcome... Anyway nice comfy bed and what not, but I would not come here back again.

Booked two rooms at this hotel-king suites. The rooms were gorgeous and extremely modern. The staff was extremely friendly and gave us a great dinner recommendation. The breakfast had a larger than average selection which include bacon, eggs, and sausage. The staff here was extremely accommodating. Beds extremely comfortable. Definitely a great place to stay!

Room Tip: King suites are the best!

Stayed 1 nite as a stop over from Yellowstone to Mt Rushmore. Nice, modern and new hotel. The bed was comfortable. Free breakfast was hot and good. The free water park and delicious chocolate chip cookies were an added bonus for the young travelers. Work out room is small but adequate. Laundry room is great and requires quarters to use. The staff are very nice too.

We saw a sign on our drive through Montana for this place, and were super thankful that we had already booked ahead. There was a free water park and it was AWESOME! Two slides are there, but they are very dark at night, they are only lit via natural light. There were no lifeguards on duty, which was a little odd with so many little kids running around, so I'd keep an eye out for that, but we were there right before close, so it was pretty benign. The rooms themselves were pretty typical, the whole place was very clean. Breakfast was awful, but it was free and I can't have too many complaints about it.

Upon arrival, we waited at the front desk for 10-15 minutes before seeing a hotel employee. When we finally saw an employee, he was exiting the lobby restroom still fastening his belt (left some concern as to the cleanliness of his hands).

While checking in, we asked about a roll-away bed, for which we had written confirmation. The clerk snidely informed us that since we booked through a 3rd party, there was no way we could know that there were no roll-away beds on the property. No problem, once we saw the room we realized one would not fit in there anyway.

The hotel has a small water park, which was what enticed us to book it as we were travelling with four kids. When we asked the clerk about the water park, he told us that since we had booked through a 3rd party that we would have to pay $8.50 per person to enjoy that particular "hotel amenity".

Overall, I would say that the Marriott/Fairfield family should sever all ties with 3rd party booking agents if their guests will be treated unequally. Guests are guests. If you don't feel that way, don't allow booking that way.

There should also be some concern on the part of the hotel that there was apparently not another employee around other than this bathroom bound person.

We booked two nights at this hotel on a cross country trip. We were really looking forward to the water park. It was our primary reason for deciding to stay in Gillette instead of Rapid City. The reviews made it look like the park was operational..The hotel's website didn't indicate there was any problem with the water park. It was a little bit like the Vacation movie when they get to Wallyworld and it was closed..we got to the hotel and the waterpark was not functioning. No explanation, no apology..no indication if it would be repaired..just yellow caution tape all around the water slide. A small heated pool was still open, but there weren't any clean towels. It was still about an hour before the pool closed, but I couldn't find any staff anywhere to help get new towels.

We have a family of four with a teenage son and preteen daughter, so we reserved a suite with two beds and a sofa bed. The room had such a poor layout that when the sofa bed was opened..there wasn't room to get around it to get to the bathroom! We had to completely rearrange the furniture to create a small walkway around the sofabed.

To be fair, the beds were comfortable, the room was clean and quiet. Our other problems were really just inconveniences.and I have debated about whether to mention them. However, we stayed at several different Marriot properties, a Hilton property and a Super 8 during our drive to South Dakota, Monatana and back to California. The Super 8 beat this place hands down in all areas. I am not trying to be petty, but I feel that the staff at this hotel needs to understand that sometimes it is the little things that make the difference. It doesn't seem like a big deal to not have enough towels for four people. Normally it isn't. When I called down to the front desk to get another towel, it rang for over a minute with no answer. I had already been down in the pool area and couldn't find any staff to help me. I went downstairs one more time and had to come stand directly in front of the woman at the front desk and glare for over a minute before she bothered to look up and do me the huge favor of getting another towel. The staff's attitude at breakfast was similar. No one was visibly monitoring the breakfast area, so my husband had to go into the staff room to try to get some more eggs. It was more than half an hour before breakfast service stopped. We were informed that no more eggs would be forthcoming. At exactly 9am all the previously invisible staff descended on the breakfast area and devoured what little food remained. None of the staff was overtly rude, they were just phenomenally unhelpful and did not seem to care whether we were satisfied with our stay or not.

Room Tip: Pick a different hotel.

Hotels are just bricks and mortar. It's the people that really make it hum. They are almost always the difference between a good stay and a bad one. I've stayed at the Gillette Fairfield previously, and it was more than sufficient, but this time the staff made it a better than average stay. The morning food service gals keep the supplies stocked, and the room clean. Especially important when their are a LOT of guests who all want to get-n-go at the same time. Our room (king) did not have a fridge, so they brought one up on a cart...MINUTES LATER! We being our own pillows, had a place to park the truck and trailer, TV is big but not HD, lots of towels but they could be just a little larger/thicker, the grounds are picked up and everything looks well cared for. I'm not a fan of the extra charge for use of the pool. At the room rate they charge, there isn't really any variable cost increase to let us use the pool w/o nicking us $ per head.
