“Great Place in Evanston”
Reviewed August 19, 2014

What a pleasant surprise on the road. Clean and comfy, quiet and well appointed. Convenient restaurant right next door (did not visit). The hostess/owner was very accommodating. The place is very retro so if you are looking for new decor head down the road. What you will find is a clean room with both an interior hallway as well as an exterior door. Large bathrooms are a treat. The rooms and hallway are huge!! The breakfast was very well done considering the $58.00 room rate, plenty to get your day started. The AC did not work all that well, but on a 90 degree day the fan and AC combo more than did the job in a West facing room. I stayed in RM 127. This would be a great place to have family reunion as it feels so homy. Beware of the lurking NINJA in the breakfast area!!! LOL.

Room Tip: All rooms seemed well appointed.

It was 100+ for most of my travels the day I stayed here. This is a cinder block structure with no air conditioning. I guess I assumed they would have air, as this is the ONLY hotel I've been in years that didn't at least have a window shaker. They did supply a box fan which got me through the night when I pointed it directly at the bed. Very dated place in all aspects. There was a mini-fridge though. I booked this place in a hurry the night before and should have taken the time to better research what was available in Evanston. The Motel 6 across the street was advertising cheaper rates and I'm betting they had air conditioned space. The husband and wife, and children who were running the place were pleasant but obviously distracted managing the hotel and the children. They offered a free cold stuff breakfast, but I didn't even investigate it since I was up and out as soon as possible the next morning.

It was clean, quiet, comfy bed and pillows. The AC didn't work but there was a fan. If you are l expecting a Marriott don't stay here, but for a great price, it is clean and a safe place to stay. Expect a very invigorating shower though! We were just passing through Evanston, so it fit the bill.

Room Tip: You want to ask for a few doors down from the owners room.

LARGE rooms!!! Probably the biggest outside of a suite I have ever stayed in. The price was LOW...$58!! :) Beautiful wood plank vaulted ceilings. Pet friendly. Very friendly staff. My only critique would be the breakfast...it was all donuts, bagels, etc, which is FINE, however, several of the items were stale and a bit hard/dried out. Milk & yogurt were fresh. Coffee was good. Overall a great stay and we would gladly visit again.

this motel has the largest rooms I have ever stayed in. it is also one of the cleanest and quietest places I have ever stayed. the desk staff and managers are very helpful people! parking is outside your door, plus there is a door to the hallway which is unbelievably wide, could drive a truck through it.

Room Tip: internet is available in the front lobby or rooms closer to the front. the rooms at the far end do...

The young couple who own the Prairie Inn Motel have done a wonderful job with this really neat retro motor inn. The very large room for our overnight stay was comfortable and clean and we really liked the all-wood ceiling, which helped to give the room a lodge-type feel.

At Prairie Inn you drive right up and park outside your room, and then there is a second secure doorway inside the room that leads out into the incredibly wide (and spotless) hallway of the motel....I swear you could drive a Mac truck down that hall!

The room was a tremendous value - and most of the other guests appeared to us to likely be fishermen coming to enjoy Bear Creek State Park just up the road or some other local fishing spot.

The continental breakfast was not as extensive as at chain hotels but was still nice and it seemed obvious that the owners care about making it a good experience. The wifi worked great.

We liked the Prairie Inn and would definitely stay again.

Not sure how this motel could get such a good rating, but it's really a very basic motel. It was clean, smelled strongly of PineSol or some such disinfectant, plus some other unpleasant odors coming from the pillows, and had probably the worst-smelling hotel soap I've ever come across. The remote controller for the CRT TV didn't match the brand, so had to be swapped out, a very minor issue, but that, with a hot water tap that couldn't be opened and a missing faucet aerator, plus a stained bedspread, made for just one more annoyance that would sure keep me from giving anything over 3 stars, and that many only because the room was as clean as the management could get it and they were also very pleasant folks. I may be disillusioned, but I think for the same dollars one could find a much nicer room.
