“Awesome Experience!!!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 17, 2014

We had an awesome experience at the Black Bear Inn!!! The room was EXTREMELY clean, and well kept. The first thing I noticed as we walked in was the clean, fresh, homey smell of the room, and the decorations I thought were very inviting!! My kids were skeptical on staying here at first, because there was no indoor swimming pool available; however once we got here they were begging to stay another night, and to take their dog Temo home with us...lol!!! We got to go square dancing for the first time ever, and we had s'mores by the river. Liz and her niece Aubrey are absolutely amazing people, and they made our stay amazing!! The hospitality is indescribable. We will MOST DEFINITELY visit The Black Bear Inn again if we get the opportunity.

You guys are so fun! We have the nicest guests on the planet. You included!
Thanks so much for the kind review! I will show Aubree! Come back when we can float the river. Tell the kids thanks for trying us without a pool! Hugs from the Bear!

It's the extras you won't find anywhere else (books, line-dried sheets, plush towels, ceramic cups, campfires beside a river, & a personable host) that will make you glad you chose THE BLACK BEAR INN.

We were on our way home to Oregon when we stopped in Dubois. To be honest I was a little leary about what the rooms would be like as we had a bad experience in another town the night before. Liz welcomed us to see the room before we paid and we were happy with what we saw. The room was spotless, there was a small supply of mini candy bars and coffee and some teddy bears to personalize the space.
After checking in she recommended a good place for dinner and invited us to the fire pit later for music and s'mores. We took her up on the offer as did most everyone staying there and had a great time. In talking to her we found out that we have family that lives in the same small town in Colorado. I would definately stay there again if we ever make it back to Dubois.

My handicapped wife and I stayed one night. There were six stuffed bears in our room and when we pulled out the wash cloths there were Twix candy bars in them. Liz, Lee Ann, and Lee Ann's daughter were very nice. They have a library with books and CDs to watch. Black Bear Inn is on a river and you can walk down the gradual slope and walk into the river(this was not Florida water, it was cold!), where they have lots of seating and picnic tables. You can borrow fishing poles from them. They start a fire nightly by the river and roast free Smores candy for you. You can stay by the river and keep feeding the fire with the fire wood they have there. There were three BBQ grills by the river also. Beds were very good. Room size was good.

Room Tip: we had a two bed room, yet there was still room for wife's wheel chair and walker in room

We stayed at the Black Bear Inn and took a step back to a simpler time when staying at a road side Inn was run by people and not corporations . Our room was very sweet with all the touches of a time long ago and all the cleanliness we all want and expect. The Inn is unique as well as charmingly unexpected and we are very happy we spent the night . It didn't take long for us to realize that what makes the Black Bear Inn so special is Liz ,who owns and runs the place. She is a person we will not soon forget . Her hand can be seen everywhere on the grounds ,which are neat as a pin, to the attention and warm welcome she offers each guest . We feel privileged to have met this amazing woman and to have been her guest for one memorable night in September . Thank you so much Liz ! Bear Hugs!!!!

Although billed as nonsmoking, the room I stayed in smelled like a VFW bar. It did serve to mask the odor of the mold obviously growing in bathroom. Could not wait to get out of there. Would have left immediately if there was another room available in town. While some may find the teddy bears and rubber ducks charming, I found them tacky and adding to the already cramped feel of the room. Also not a fan of the abundance of Christian literature in room.

Michael,
We were so sad to see this post. All of our rooms are non smoking rooms. Once in a while smokers rent them and smoke near the door but I don't know how it could smell like a VFW bar. I so wish you would have alerted us to the problem. We could have moved you to another room. As for the mold, I almost died from a mold encounter in my home in Denver a few years ago so we are diligent to prevent and terrified of the stuff. Not sure where you saw mold but we will check again, as we do daily, to make sure we do not play host to ANY mold. Thanks for the heads up. Sorry you did not enjoy your stay with us. Travel Safe. We recently spent one day at Black Bear Inn before heading to Yellowstone National Park and we had a very positve experience. Liz did a nice job by making my family & I feel welcome. The smores by the lake were a nice touch. I personaly loved that the room had a home like feel even though it was not very big.I felt it was clean and it met all our needs. The price was good it was close enough to go see the Grand Titon and Yellowstone. I would recommend it and stay their again. Thank you Ms. Liz
