“Cabin?”
Reviewed December 3, 2012

While on a 2 week trip covering Montana and Wyoming we had reservations at Crooked Creek for a couple of nights. We love to stay off the beaten path, and, from the looks of their internet site this totally fit the bill. We love hiking, photography, the outdoors...this place should be perfect! Off the beaten path...yes. Cabin? Disappointing, very disappointing. The cabin was no more than a VERY small room with a bed. Period. No chairs, no nothing. There was nowhere to walk with our luggage on the floor. At least there was a bathroom. We had a front porch with a view of the meadow...no chairs to sit in, though. We tried to get something larger (for an additional $75/night) but ultimately we decided to leave. We felt like this couldn't have been the place we were so excited about; we felt misled. Once we got home I emailed Crooked Creek with these same complaints but never got a response. Even a partial refund would have been nice, not to mention a response to my email. I know there are policies regarding refunds but there should also be something one can do when the property misrepresents itself.

Went for dinner Saturday. We had some of the best Prime Rib we have had in a long time. We have a cabin very close by and enjoy being able to have a nice dinner.

What an awesome place to stay for snowmobiling! We just returned to Michigan. The New Yorkers beat me to the review-glad you made it home safely, too.

Everyone there was so friendly and accommodating, especially Nick and Leah. The moose and mule deer were everywhere, including right outside our cabin door!

Rented sleds that were very well cared for. All rates were very fair. Breakfasts and dinners were plentiful and varied.

I can't say enough. Only about 50 guests there this week, but they came from all across the country. If your wanting to sled Wyoming, don't miss the Crooked Creek Guest Ranch.

We didn't stay here, but at a rented cabin twenty miles away. Still, the adult kids wanted to go horseback and ATV riding. So they went here and had so much fun, they ended up going a second time in the same week.

We had two young ladies, Beth and Brooke, who gave us some outstanding customer service. They were patient and laid back and, though I think our family was a pain, they took it in stride. The girls, both adults, were allowed to ride their horses over the mountaintops on their own, even getting up to a gallop. The second day was even better because they had gotten to know the horses!

Our sons took the ATVs and there are lots and lots of trails around. They talked us old people into renting a four person one. Fortunately it had a front windshield because they led us through a small stream! Agh! But they were nice and we had a great time as well.

It took us a while to find Crooked Creek Guest Ranch, despite our GPS. The location is very nice and remote and ideal for a get-away. They offer trail rides on friendly horses, but don't expect to trot or lope. The scenery is well worth it, though. The only thing that bothered us was the water quality in our otherwise very cozy cabin; it smelled like sulfur and it did not help to let the water run for a while, as was suggested to us. We ended up brushing our teeth with drinking water we happened to have brought along. My husband was frequently woken up by a noise coming from the wall, which was probably the water heater.

My family has stayed at the Crooked Creek guest ranch for each of the last several summers. It is located about 15 miles from Dubois, WY (small town on US 26 on the way to Yellowstone and Teton NP) and up Union pass road.

During the summer it is a very family oriented place with ATV and horse back riding rentals, fishing closeby, and the continental divide (about another 15 miles drive up Union pass road... but hey you drove this far what's another 15 miles).

The staff is usually very friendly although they tend to turn over from summer to summer.

Lodging is in detached cabins (~15) with 1 - 3 rooms depending on configuration. Some have TVs but reception is spotty. Sullen teanagers might not like the lack of TV but hey you didn't drive here to sit in the cabins rather you're here to take in the great outdoors. Cabins are serviced every other day.

The guest ranch overlooks a meadow with mountains framing the background.

The food at the dining hall is good, reasonably priced, and
comes in large portions. Service at the bar (open 5 to whenever) is nice as well.

If you're looking for an out of the way, quiet locations, with plenty of outdoor activities and friendly staff then this is the place for you.
