For any baby boomer whose parents took them out west in a wood-paneled stationwagon, Trail's End Motel is the iconic log cabin motel that you remember. It has been remodeled just enough to add nice conveniences such as in-room refrigerators and microwaves, but not so much as to loose it's charm. The impeccably manicured grass and detailed flower garden, although small, will be your first indication that the service in this motel is without flaw. I recommend the more expensive rooms that look over the Wind River, and have easy access to the cute flower-adorned deck. Although there are several good restaurants in Dubois, a quaint old-fashioned cowboy town, we found that the grill that the motel provides on the deck ovelooking the river, was a great place to grill steaks purchased from the grocery store across the street. A 10-minute enjoyable walk to downtown was where we found a small, but nice wine shop to provide wine for our dinners. The hotel owners, seeing that we were about to drink our wine out of a paper cup, not only provided us with wine glasses, but also a wine opener. We quickly realized that what we saved from grilling our own steaks made the cost of the room practically negligible. (While we tend to be people who do not cook at home, we found the grilling of steak on the deck over the Wind River to be an fun experience, and incredible saving of money. When we did eat in restaurants in Dubois, we spent about $80 for 2 people for an evening meal, vs $40 with much higher quality wine when grilling on the deck.)
We further recommend Trail's End because of the transportation service that they provide for all the other hotels and ranches in town and thus made getting to the Jackson Hole Airport or to Yellowstone a breeze. Their vehicles are neat and clean and extremeley high off the ground, thus providing great sight-seeing with a view above the guard rails. (For those who will be headed to the remote back country, we noticed that the motel rents satellite phones.)
Lastly, we found the owner and his wife constantly cleaning and taking care of their business, but always having time to provide suggestions, advice, information on local history and folklore.

Cute little motor lodge right on the river. It was clean and cute and had a pretty deck overlooking the wind river. Family owned with really nice host. We arrived late and still recieved a warm welcome. Good value

Nice rooms and reasonably priced. The motel is located on the Wind River and guests have the added pleasure of a deck acess that is situated directly above the river. My grandkids loved the displays in the motel lobby which included everything from indian atrifacts to a grizzley bear marked tree.

Stayed here on our 35th Anniversary Vacation for 5 nights. Owners were great. On the day of our anniversary, we left in the morning to go see the Tetons and came back to room and found a bottle of champagne, a couple of glasses and a nice card. It was great. Room was real nice. The deck out back of room along the WInd River was terrific. Very clean, owners spent a lot of time cleaning up the area. Very enjoyable people. I hope that some day I and the wife may be able to come back and stay again.

I had booked two rooms for our group and our stay in Dubois was more that what we had expected. The check-in and check-out procedures were absolutely perfect and the helpfulness of the staff / owners was beyond all of our expectations. This quaint lodging is very well priced and beautifully maintained, highly recommend you stay for one night or several, we will definitely stay again in the future. Thx, Mike & Mary

Nice clean rooms. Very friendly staff (who I believe are the owners as well). We arrived late into Dubois and tried to check into the Super 8. It was full, so the lady at reception called the Trail's End to see if space was available, also mentioning that we were hungry. When we arrived at Trail's End, the owners were calling around to see if there was a place for us to go and eat. Even though the kitchen at the Whiskey Saloon was closed, Trail's End asked if they would still prepare something for us, and Whiskey Saloon complied. (Go there for a drink or bite to eat if you're in Dubois!) Would definitely return.
