“Wonderful Wyoming at its best”
Reviewed August 28, 2013

If you put western hospitality, Wyoming high country, great food, historic (and very comfortable) cabins, 60+ horses and fantastic flyfishing together, you have the T Cross Ranch. Gretchen and Mark have truely perfected the recipe for making a vacation at the T Cross a wonderful experience. Okay, we are a bit prejudice...we were there last year and have it in our plans for 2014!

We were panning for gold among dude ranches and we hit the Mother Lode at T Cross Ranch. This is an authentic Western ranch with real, rugged cowboys, breathtaking scenery and a focus on riding. Our gracious hosts Gretchen and Mark set the tone for our stay which carried through to their warm, courteous, respectful staff. The food is exceptional! Everyone knows your name at T Cross. The games were an absolute hoot! We dudes tried our hand at barrel racing, pole bending and herding cattle. Make your reservations early. There will be a gold rush next year, cause I'm telling all my friends.

I travelled to T Cross ranch with my two boys (11 and 14) and we really had the most amazing trip. T Cross was a dream - our little log cabin was totally cozy and country chic (we are currently at the ritz carlton in SF and both my kids said they preferred the log cabin!),

Our horses were great, responsive, reliable and able to go fast or go slow depending on what the rider wanted of them. The wranglers were great - skilled, caring and interesting.

The food was home cooked americana, not gourmet, just simple, yummy and made with a lot of love by the amazing chef.

That was the theme that ran throughout our experience at Tcross - simple, great and done with a lot of heart.

We all look forward to going back agin soon!

It took hours and hours of researching the internet for ranches in Wyoming to finally decide on T Cross. It was worth every valuable minute! My husband, daughter of 14 and I, fulfilled a life-long dream to become cowboys for a week and it exceeded all our expectations. The hospitality of both Gretchen and Mark together with their fabulous team of youthful and gorgeous 'youngsters' was really enjoyed. The horses - we still miss them, the views - stunning, the rides - a daily adventure, the gymkana - haven't laughed so much in years not to forget the food cooked lovingly by Jay. Would we go back - no question. I've done enough research and we came up trumps. Almost forgot to mention the other guests - a brilliant mixture who blended well and enjoyed each other enormously. Well done T Cross!

This was my first visit to the T Cross as the ranch I'd visited for the last 20 years closed this year. I'll definitely be going back.

The T Cross had everything I was looking for -- a bit remote, family run, small, and not pretentious. Riding was the focus of our activities and the wranglers had the patience of saints. They do a good job at matching horses and guests, but are also willing to switch horses if a guest wants. There were half-day rides on 3 days (twice daily) and full day rides on two days, but nobody forces guests to ride if they don't want to. The gymkhana (games) on Thursday was a hoot. We did barrel racing, pole bending, shovel races, sack races -- all in a friendly atmosphere, everybody was cheered, and it wasn't set up as a real "competition" scenario.

Cabins are spotless. Mine (Ramshorn) was perfect for one. All cabins have porches (I believe most are covered) so that you can sit outside and read or watch the scenery if you want.

As for the food -- wow! You can get coffee/tea/hot chocolate before breakfast if you want. Food is plentiful and delicious, and they bend over backwards to accommodate dietary restrictions. Cookies are available in between meals, but I never took any because I was so full from thte meals.

There's a refrigerator on the dining hall porch, with a compartment for each cabin where guests can keep items that need to be kept cold. That was a great convenience, and nobody takes anything that isn't theirs.

Will I be back? Definitely! It's a treat to be in a place where you can sleep with windows/doors open, leave doors unlocked and valuables out, and everything is safe.

This was our second trip to T Cross. Our first trip was last year. Have you ever repeated a vacation only to find the second time just didn't hold the magic again? Not so with T Cross; we loved our second time even more! The staff, the horses, the cabins, the food, the riding - all fantastic. The location is simply beyond description; it's so peaceful, quiet and beautiful. I can't imagine any better. If you want a vacation where you can get a way from it all, be in the most beautiful scenery nature can offer and want to ride great horses - this is it. You won't be disappointed!

I wanted to visit a dude ranch for the last 4 or 5 years but my wife was hesitant. We took the plunge this year and the T-Cross Ranch exceeded all of our expectations. The food was 5 star,(cudos to Jay), the service and interaction with the staff was professional and friendly and very attentive, the cabins were clean and very comfortable, and the family atmosphere with the other guests, (both rookies and veterans), made for the best vacation we have ever had. Our horses were matched to our abilities and the views as we took our half and full day rides were unbelievable. Would I recommend it to others ? Oh yes ! But don't take my spot because we plan on returning next year. Pat and Scott M

Room Tip: All rooms are in log cabins. I would choose the room with the fireplace. It's so nice to drift...

The T Cross Ranch, located in the greater Yellowstone area, has been providing guests with an unforgettable all-inclusive experience for close to 100 years. Comfortable cabins are furnished with rustic elegance. Fabulous meals featuring made-from-scratch breads and organic ranch-raised beef satisfy every appetite. The surrounding country is unforgettable, with the Absaroka mountain peaks soaring to over 13,000 feet around the ranch. This land has been carved naturally by water, wind, and glaciers. Horseback is the only way to see this pristine country. With a string of over 60 horses, there’s the perfect mount for every guest. Our wranglers are experienced cowboys with literally thousands of miles on horseback under their belts. This is western riding in its purest form, the way it originated, the way few people experience it. ... more   less
