“One of a Kind Fabulous Spot”

We (family of 5) first discovered this gem 9 years ago by accident. Our first visit was as good as it could get - so we thought back then. At the time, my children were 8, 10 and 12 years old. Since 2002, we have returned to Brooks Lake Lodge a total of 7 times - most recently last month. And we were wrong as the place only gets better with every trip. Food is out of this world - even lunch fare with an extra spin. The beauty of both the surroundings and lodge itself is unmatched. Staff is always top notch with a desire for fun, success (fly fishing), and safety (horse back riding and hiking). Accommodations are extraordinary. My children still request to return, and that may be the best indicator of a splendid time.

My wife booked this vacation to take advantage of the outdoor pleasures Wyoming has to offer. The two of us, along with our three boys, ages 23, 22, and 18, got all we bargained for! We stayed June 28-July 3. Mother Nature tossed a curveball to general manager Adam and his excellent staff, as Winter 2011 was a record-setter for snowfall. The lodge is accessed by a five mile gravel road which seemed to take us to another dimension. Although we could see snow in the mountains as we drove from the airport in Jackson, once we arrived at the lodge all we could see was four foot deep snow for miles! Brooks Lake was still frozen over.

Adam greeted us inside the rustic, well-appointed lodge and from there the party was on! Dinners included exotic meats such as ostrich, elk, bison, etc. This was not frontier food...believe me. We looked forward to every meal. Chef Antonia was eager to please and offered to modify a dish if we wanted something a little different. Her daughter is the pastry chef. Everything from homemade cinnamon rolls at breakfast to the desserts was delicious. The wine list is small but well-chosen and very reasonably priced. Lunch is also included. For all-day activities, the staff packs a hearty lunch box. Every meal was a treat.

We stayed in three rooms in the main lodge which also houses the dining room, saloon, game room, etc. Beds were comfortable and the rooms were wonderful. The hot tub was a short walk through the snow to the Spa. The mountain view from the tub was breathtaking.

The activities made the trip though. Because of the prolonged melting of the snow, the streams were swollen, muddy, and fast moving. Not ideal fly-fishing conditions. That didn't deter Taylor and Tanner, our friendly and eager guides/instructors. They knocked themselves out teaching us how to fly-fish. We had a blast. Experienced fishermen were waiting for better weather, but Taylor, Tanner, and we didn't care. We spent a lot of time in the water and learned the basics, all the while enjoying the beauty of this area. We chose one full day and one half day of fishing. By the way, all activities are included in the price, except for daily fishing licenses and the like. Just tell Adam what you want to do and he'll see that it happens.

We spent 2 half days on horses. The young lady wranglers were enthusiastic and capable, leading us through mountain trails. I'd never ridden and I didn't kill myself, so they did a great job.

The most fun was the hiking. Adam led us on a 6-mile roundtrip to Lake Louise, which is an Alpine-like lake surrounded by mountain peaks. We covered about 1000 feet vertical each way. The view of the lake was breathtaking. Our last day, July 2, he decided to challenge us a bit with a hike to the top of Brooks Mountain. This was only about five miles round trip, but the vertical was 2000 feet. And the hike started in the snow and stayed in the snow all the way. We had never snowshoed but we did that day. My wife and I almost made it to the top, but Adam and my three boys went all the way. It was exhilarating! The views were amazing. We were above the treeline. Adam offered to let us walk down to the treeline or to slide! He'd brought along six big plastic garbage bags and told us to poke our legs through the bottoms. We all slid down on our backsides a couple hundred yards to the treeline. We all felt like kids. We laughed our heads off. The hike down was easier, but just as much fun.

What an unexpected winter treat for our summer vacation! It is one we'll never forget. We took lots of great pictures. Adam took pictures of us with his camera and my son uploaded them to his laptop there. The entire staff was gracious and helpful. We were truly sad to leave. If you like fishing, hiking, horseback riding, or just relaxing in a beautiful mountain paradise, this is the place for you. Adam personally makes sure your expectations are met or exceeded.

Room Tip: We preferred the main lodge to be in the center of things. Private cabins on-site are available as...

We wanted a ranch experience after spending time in Yellowstone. We were a little concerned with the large amount of snow still on the ground in June, but unlike the snow, our concerns quickly melted away shortly after our arrival.

Adam and his staff do a first rate job in running this beautiful ranch. The food was amazing, the rooms were clean and comfortable, and everyone from the wranglers, the fishing guides, and staff who helped with our youngest son was wonderful to us. You will know everyone by name by the time that you leave.

We had activities ranging from horse back riding, fly fishing, and hiking in the morning and afternoons. There was an afternoon tea, which was very nice and the kids enjoyed playing shuffleboard. The surrounding mountains are beautiful and the setting couldn't be more ideal.

There was plenty of things to do, but at the same time we never felt rushed. We wanted to include all of the kids (ages 3, 7, and 9) in our activities and that is what we did. All of the kids learned to fly fish - only the 7 and 9 donned the waders. The guides fished with our youngest from the bank. We all went hiking and our youngest was led on a horse. He didn't ride the trails, but had a great time watering the horses and playing while we went riding. The kids loved the horses. We saw a moose and elk on the trails and the kids loved playing the stick game. Our family hike led us up to a pond where we watched frogs. It was perfect for our kids - as the frog is a fan favorite with them.

All in all, it was a beautiful lodge but made special by the great people. Thanks for a wonderful stay.

I was a little apprehensive about going to a ranch, when my wife booked our summer vacation. I am not big on horseback riding but she and our 11 year old son loves it. After the "adventurous" trip to get to the ranch, I was very pleasantly surprised by the lodge and the rooms. We had 2 rooms in the lodge that were very nicely appointed and better than some 4 * hotels you would come across. Beds and pillows were comfortable. Rustic and each room had a different decor. The folks were very friendly and helpful. Adam, the manager and the wranglers and everyone involved with the lodge MADE our trip. My wife and I learned to fly fish and had a blast, the guide was very patient with us. The wranglers(Veronica and Dustin, Mo) made our rides each day fun and were just as eager as we were, to ride to different places. They were very patient with some of the other riders on the trip. The staff was so kind to our son. When he wanted to go on a hike while Mom and Dad had a spa appointment, the young lady working said she could free up some time and she took our son and the lodge's dogs on a 2-3 hour hike, that he loved. When he wanted to climb up the peak that fronts the lodge(without Dad , cuz he wanted to be around the young staff) , Adam and 3 other folks from the lodge took him on the hike up where he saw Big Horn sheep, and his confidence and pride of accomplishment was so evident. The wildlife watching was great. The grizzly and her cubs that came out in the meadows was fun to watch in the evenings. Oh and the food......I thought I would lose weight on this trip....no way!!! The food was GREAT.The service during the day and the informal feeling at the bar in the evening, it felt like you were there with family. The atmosphere makes it easy to make friends, and share the days' stories. The horses we had were just perfect for us. Everything was taken care of for us.........Adam would ask us each night what we did and wanted to do the next day, and lo and behold it was arranged. I think you can take what you want out of a trip to Brooks Lake Lodge, be a busy or as lazy as you would like. We travel quite a bit and have been to most corners of the world, and the trip to Brooks Lake Lodge and Yellowstone was one of the BEST family vacations we have taken.....EVER. Our son hated to leave and I have already told my wife I am ready to go back any time. Our friends are all putting this on their travel plans when they go to the parks. HINT...ask the folks all the questions you want of what to do and where to go......they won't steer you wrong.

I was there with my husband and a girlfriend for what was supposed to be a couple of days out on the range for snowmobiling after skiing in Jackson Hole. We were pleasantly surprised to be treated to a luxurious vacation that catered to our every need in an almost storybook setting. We enjoyed one day of snowmobiling and another day of dogsledding. My friend and I spent a half day at the spa and had it all to ourselves - there are relatively few visitors there in the winter as compared to the summer - which is a shame, because the view from the spa tub during the winter is spectacular. All the fireplaces were kept blazing and the lodge and rooms were rustically luxurious. Not the plastic, faux rustic that you often see, but really rustic and really comfortable. The food was plentiful and delicious - the buffalo tenderloin was better than any beef tenderloin/filet mignon I've ever tasted. Next trip we will allow more time to take advantage of the inclusive cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, and maybe incorporate a trip to Yellowstone (they are closer than I originally thought). Go for the scenery and outdoor adventure - stay for the luxury!

Access to the lodge is a bit of a challenge but after the 5 miles of mountain dirt road you finally get rewarded. You reach an wide open space, with a beautiful lodge, facing a beautiful lake in which no less beautiful mountain peaks admire themselves. After opening the ranch gates, you notice horses and stalls, you also notice the cabins in which you might be the fortunate staying guest for the next few days. The facility is awsome, the cabins are comfortable, have perfect privacy, fireplaces and comfy high beds, the Molton Brown amenities are the only touch of outspoken luxury. The big lodge has cathedral high ceilings, gigantic fire places but overall feels cozy and warm and very family like. Staff is courteous and gracious, breakfast and dinners (included) and scrumptious and outdoor activities (also included) totally cool.
All that combined makes an unforgettable stay and makes you and you party promise each other that you will definitely comeback someday. Benoit & Sonia Badufle - currently living in Singapore
