The scenery surrounding the Bearlodge Resort is fantastic. The hotel is sorely in need of cleaning and upkeep. The 'front desk' is difficult to locate, situated between the bar, the restaurant and 'gift shop.' We waited for the clerk to ring up restaurant meals, bar tabs, and give directions. And as noted in another review, there is a deposit for the room key. The garbage cans were full-to-overflowing, cigarette butts littered the parking lot, the carpet stained and the hall badly in need of cleaning/fresh paint. We were fortunate to be on the second floor; the music from the bar was quite loud on the first floor. In our room, the air conditioner worked but the screen was torn. The room was average sized, carpet needed cleaning, towels and bedding were worn. We'll check out the other nearby options on future trips.

We stayed here July 15, 2012. The place seems to have lots of management problems - many rooms were not ready for guests at 2 pm check in time, the advertised laundry (a treat if you are camping in the Big Horns) was out of service. The guest interface is ridiculous - one lady has to manage guest check-in and check-out, as well as all the restaurant and gift shop customers. When we called earlier in the week to make a reservation she put us on hold for so long we assumed she had forgotten about us - we hung up and called back and were put on hold again. When we checked in a bus load of tourists were leaving the restaurant and the gift shop and it took us a half hour of waiting just to check into the hotel. The staff in the hotel and the restaurant is - to put it politely - not very well trained in hotel management, but they also seem to be badly short-staffed and overworked, and therefore impatient with guests. But the worst experience we had with the staff was with some character with a beard and a cowboy costume who actually seemed to be the manager. He was standing by when we were trying to find out from the poor, overworked lady at the desk where else we could get our laundry done, and he just stared at us with complete stolid, stupid indifference to our problem.
The room was a decent size, but quite shoddy - only one lamp in the whole room (by the bed), no lamp on the desk so it sits in the dark. Badly stained carpet, grey towels and sheets. The air conditioning did not provide any cool air, but if you opened the window the screen was so badly dented that it hardly fit the window and let in bugs. We were on the back side of the hotel, so you have to keep the curtain closed at night because there is an enormous street light right outside the room, and with the curtain closed little air gets into the room.
The food in the restaurant was ok (we're vegetarians, and they have options), and one of the houskeeping staff we encountered was quite helpful. But this place obviously aims low for the biker, beer and cigarettes market segment, and I would recommend that most people would be much happier staying at the nearby Elk View Inn.

On the recommendation of a Wyoming travel guide we drove to reach Bear Lodge Resort before dark hopeful of a bed. In 40 years of travel we've never been asked for a cash deposit for our room key (but paid ) only to be shown to a room which didn't lock anyway. Checked to discover that the kitchen was open until 8.30 but were told at 8.10 that the restaurant was closed. We were able to order from a bar menu, hamburger, which arrived raw and cold in the centre, which was recooked to burnt and inedible.
Retired to the room to barricade ourselves in. The TV didn't work, the exhaust fan in the bathroom was so loose I feared it would vibrate out of the ceiling and the bedding was torn and had cigarette burns.
Not wishing to brave the kitchen again in the morning we decided to check out. Our final indignity was filling the inroom coffee machine to watch a horrible brown sludge rise to the surface.
Keep driving or sleep in the car.

Went up on the week of July 4th, 2012. pre-booked the "Jacuzzi Suite" for 2 nights. It was a complete disaster from the moment we arrived. Room wasn't ready, no ice machine, the staff was rude and annoyed in the restaurant, bar, & main counter. Jacuzzi broke 10 minutes into our "romantic evening", no room to front desk phone. After my heavy complaints the morning after we received a full refund and moved on. This place REALLY needs work to call itself a resort.
