After my wife went through a year of cancer treatments, we were ready to get back to living. To say we needed to relax is an understatement. We chose the Shoshone Lodge because they offered horseback riding, rock-hounding and some much needed porch sitting. Rustic yet civilized and peaceful, we fell asleep every night to the sound of the rushing Grinnell Creek....pure heaven! Our cabin (Cabin Creek) was very nicely appointed and located on a babbling brook. The foot traffic in front of our porch was a little heavy as it was the short-cut to the laundry and horses, but after while we welcomed it. The horseback rides (three of them!) were the best and the views spectacular! Our visit was during the 4th of July when the Lodge hosts a delicious BBQ and "Wild West" type show. No fireworks, just campfires - perfect. We were even lucky enough to entertain the guests with some acoustic music under the stars.......Now that's what I'm talkin' about!

Thank you Mike and family and all the Wranglers and crew for being such gracious hosts and bringing us back to "life!"

We stayed 3 nights at the Shoshone Lodge. We chose to do our traveling in the off season and arrived after most places had closed down. Not only did Mike at the Shoshone give us a fantastic discounted rate, he kept horses around on the property so we could go riding! Was a little concerned because I hadn't seen any photos of the cabin we were to be staying in (the large 2br, 2ba w/ full kitchen), but it was beautiful! We arrived after the restaurant had closed for the season, but with a full kitchen, we didn't miss it too much.

It is a bit of a drive into Yellowstone everyday, but do-able! We for the most part enjoyed that drive as we saw deer and otters playing! The horse back ride was phenomenol. Jeff was our guide and 2 dogs came along for the trip. We even saw a bear! The horses were very nice and actually listened to their rider! I am used to the "follow the path" type of rides where you might as well put the reins down, this was a nice change! Jeff, as well as EVERYONE else we met, was very personable. Felt right at home!

Wasn't expecting the cleaning everyday! So was nice to come back to a clean cabin everyday! Wish we had an inside door mat since we had a bit of rain, and maybe a throw blanket for the cold nights! But these were little things and with the daily cleaning and just using a blanket from one of the extra beds, it was really no big deal! If I had to plan another trip to Yellowstone, I would do it the same exact way! We would go the beginning of October to get away from the crowds and traffic. And we would plan to stay at the Shoshone again. And the only time I had a hard time getting thru to them on the phone was a couple of months ago when the fires took out the phone and power lines for about a week, otherwise they were very easy to reach and very accommodating!

We decided to stay at Shoshone Lodge on our way to Yellowstone based on reviews we found here. Unfortunately our stay was not as good as others. For starters, we had problems booking our reservation and getting a confirmation. I had to call several times since they kept saying they would call me back and never did. That should have been my hint to go elsewhere. But we really wanted to stay at Shoshone.

We booked the Cabin Creek Cabin. It sounded wonderful since it was supposed to be on a creek with a bridge a few feet from the door. Well, the creek seemed to be more of a ditch with water pumped through and the bridge a few feet from our door was made of 2 planks of wood laid over the "creek".

The cabin was ok. No room to spare. From one wall to the other was the pullout sofa-which blocked the windows so we could not open them, a mini fridge-that did not work and ruined our food, the bed-that kept moving every time we sat on it and a tiny night stand. There was one light in the ceiling and one small light on the nightstand. It was so dark we couldn't even read our books before bed like we enjoy doing. The bathroom was just as small with no place to put any toiletries-so we put them in the hall by the bathroom door. The jet tub is not a nice jacuzzi type tub but a small tub with jets. We didn't even use it after seeing it.

To top it off we couldn't even enjoy the peaceful woods because the workers at Shoshone had a golf cart and a John Deere cart that they rode everywhere and I mean everywhere. It was continually going up and down the road right by us or around the other cabins which are all very close by. So, it was noisy until 9:30P and then at 7A the ski resort across the road started working with a helicopter-granted that had nothing to do with Shoshone-but it just kind of topped out our terrible stay.

Also, at Shoshone you are in the middle of nowhere. We did not have a kitchen in our cabin but that was ok because they had a restaurant. Well, it was Sunday night and they told us the restaurant would not be opening because the stove was broken! But don't worry it would be open bright and early Monday morning for us to have breakfast. We found it a little fishy that Sunday evening someone would fix the stove miraculously by Monday AM.

All in all-very disappointing. We had wanted to stay 3 nights and use it as a base to see some of Yellowstone. Thank goodness there was only 1 night available. Also-it is too far to use as a base to see Yellowstone. Stay in Yellowstone-it is much more convenient and you really do get to enjoy the peace and quiet of the outdoors!

Although we only stayed one night here, the staff treated us like we would be with them all week. Warm and welcoming.

Our cabin was ready at the appointed time, CLEAN, and included everything mentioned. The grounds were nice, the lodge puppies friendly and the bed was very comfortable.

We had breakfast in the dining room the next morning and although the server had maybe a few too many tables she was kind and attentive, all of our food arrived quickly and was hot and delicious.

2 week vacation which included Yellowstone......chose the Shoshone Lodge because of great reviews and close proximity to Yellowstone and we where not disappointed at all. First of all the location is breathtaking. Just walking around their area is beautiful......cannot say enough about the owners and everyone that worked there. They also seemed to really care about your stay and comfort. The food in the lodge was great.......Prime Rib night our first night there. Our cabin was clean and comfortable.
Prices very reasonable. They did have a lot of good looking horses but that was not something we where interested in. Breakfast was great with the best tasting pancakes ever. They packed lunch for us on our trips in to Yellowstone and they tasted great. Can you tell I miss it. All I can say is just go!!!!!!
