Great museum, much larger than it looks. Honestly one of the best I have ever been in. Everything was so well displayed lots of interactive stuff. Don't miss!

Really amazing museum from the outside it looks quite small but looks are deceiving . We really liked the area about the plains Indians and spent most of the afternoon wandering around. The gift shop was a tad expensive but some top quality items were on sale.

We had been to Deadwood the day before & I thought this would just be a bit of fun. My husband's grandmother saw the Buffalo Bill show in the UK as a child so he feels a connection of sorts.
BUT this is a serious museum. There are number of discrete sections(5) & we had limited time so chose those which interested us most. I 'did' Western Art & the Scupture Garden plus the Plains Indians. As a Britisher I'd seen the odd picture or bronze but was unaware of Western Art as a genre. I was very impressed with a fine display. The gallery itself is lovely with a huge window at the far end overlooking a fine statue of Buffalo Bill with the mountains behind.
The Plains Indian exhibit was good as well but I was unable to complete this section.
My husband did the fire arms & the BB section with a quick look in at the others..
We had 2.5 hours there & broke briefly for a soup of lunch which gives you some idea of the size of the collection & the time you should allow.

This is a wondeful museum, very well-planned. You could easily spend a couple of days here which is why the pass is good for two days. We bought our tickets for this and also the Cody trolley ride at the Visitors' Center in Cody.

You need a full day or better yet, a couple of days. There is so much here, that it helps to leave for a while and come back. Tickets are for two days, and now I understand why. There are five museums that are linked to a central hub: Firearms (1500 on display and another 1200 in their library); fantastic western art museum; Indian museum; Buffalo Bill museum (what an interesting figure - Annie Oakley, too - the silent films from his Wild West Show are wonderful); and Yellowstone geology museum. The gift shop has anything you might want to buy. This Smithsonian affiliate gets my vote for one of the best museums in the U.S.
