“Friendly owners, good night's sleep”
Reviewed July 27, 2012

We stayed here while driving across the country, so were focused on location, price, and cleanliness. When we realized that we were going to be arriving much later than planned, we called ahead, knowing that it was a small motel with a small staff. Brenda couldn't have been nicer, and when we arrived (around 1 AM) the keys were waiting for us along with a note. When we overslept and missed checkout, the kindness continued. Brenda inquired about our trip, gave great recommendations about places to eat/see/etc. in the surrounding area, and seemed genuinely invested in making sure we had a good experience. The room was basic, as we expected, but exceptionally clean and quiet and cool. Highly recommended!

The owners were very helpful in recommending places to eat/go (Cassie's, Cody Night Rodeo, etc.). the location was great, close to everything, etc. The rooms were a bit tired and outdated. The bed was uncomfortable (very hard), the sheets were very worn (we had a big rip in ours) and the A/C wasn't strong enough for the weather we had (over 100)- so it never got quite cool enough in the room.

It was the most affordable place we could find in Cody which was great, as we were traveling on a budget.

Thank you for staying with us. True, it was HOT that week! The AC's were at full capacity and some even replaced. I've spoken with laundry and housekeeping regarding the sheets. As new owners, we're in the process of updating the rooms once our first season is over.

Positives: Quiet location; friendly, informative hosts; within walking distance of downtown; good laundry area
Negatives: Very outdated furniture; very small bedroom; very small bathroom with small shower only; refrigerator, air conditioner, and television all by same 2-plug outlet so only two could be plugged in at once; no trimboard around air conditioner - just exposed insulation; room was clean but appeared dingy; no screen on window; write up says there is a breakfast, but there is none; no hair dryer

I read more reviews after we had stayed at this motel and noted that the hosts say that they don't offer a breakfast because they want to support local businesses. This is good, but then the write up should not say there is a breakfast offered - this is false advertising. Everything just seemed dark, drab, and dingy - again, host response to reviews state that remodeling is being done, but we didn't see any indication of this and would like to know which rooms have been remodeled. The hosts were friendly and knowledgable about the area, which we appreciated. We would have been fine with paying $60 for this motel, but it is definitely not worth the money that we had to pay. Our advice would be to pay the extra money and get a better room.

Thank you Holly, for your review. Our goal is to provide friendly service, clean, comfortable rooms at an affordable rate. A majority of our guests are very happy with their stay here and don't have the luxury to simply pay more money.

What "write up" says we have breakfast ? The previous owners hadn't offered breakfast in 5 years.

I need to know where you are seeing this so it is corrected immediately.

Our hair dryers are kept at the front desk. Had you requested one, I would've gladly provided it. Nowhere in our description does it state there are hair dryers in the rooms. Unless guests address the issues while they are here instead of hiding behind the internet after they leave, there's no way for me to address your concern.

Upgrades have begun with TV's and some of the AC's. We took the business over in April. We are unable to continue until after the season is over as it is disruptive to our guests. Our prices are significantly lower than our direct competition. More modern, more $$. We are vintage and plan to stay that way. It is one of the main reasons why guests choose to stay at our property. My guess is you choose to stay with us in the first place because of our price. Most guests are exhausted by the time they arrive and are looking for a reasonable place to stay.

As far as the insulation around the AC, the units work extra hard here in the summer and that one was recently replaced. The trim will be addressed by Mark today. The Double Queens are much larger rooms. Some of our rooms have bathtubs. Some of our older guests don't want bathtubs, it's easier to get in and out of a shower. Your room could've been exchanged for something you felt more comfortable in had you addressed this while you were here.

There are no places within 75 miles of Cody that are $60 per night at this time of the year. The "luxury" places to stay in Cody that are over $200 per night. Some are in bankruptcy because guests can not afford to stay there. There are 3 other high end places that are in financial trouble because they are unable to fill the rooms. I've been almost sold out every night since June.

I've been conducting a survey: If we continue and complete updates will you pay us $180 per night to stay here? Most said, "Absolutely NOT" because it's the price range we are in that's drawing them here for a clean, comfortable, quiet friendly place to stay.

The staff is friendly and the rooms were worth about $50 to $60 dollars. It is a very old motel and the bed was like sleeping on a brick. The windows were dirty in the back. The coffee pot wasn't cleaned in three days of our stay. The top sheet was so thin you could see through it. The parking was so tight you could just make it around the building and out of the parking lot,. I would never stay here again. I would rather pay more and at least get a breakfast.

Room Tip: Pay more and get much more

Dear Mr. Zimmerman,

To address your concern with our room rates, Cody is next to Yellowstone National Park, the most visited Park in the country with millions of visitors each season. We are booked solid almost every night. It's difficult to even find a room in this town in our price range. We have 110 days to make a year round living. No different than if you were to go to the beach, which would be more expensive. My suggestion is to camp.
From that, we know how hard we work to keep the motel clean. We are complimented on this aspect every day. The owner and myself check the rooms everyday for cleanliness and apologize your coffee pot was overlooked. We do replace our used towels every day and have refrigerator and coffee pots in the rooms, which some of the more expensive properties do not. It's unfortunate you weren't comfortable during your stay. Had you voiced your concerns while you were here, instead of hiding behind the internet, we could've gladly assisted you. We would've bent over backwards to make you happy.
Getting home and being angry after never hearing one word from you while you were here makes me ask you, why didn't you say something while you were here? Your own review said we're friendly . Nothing makes me more sad. You couldn't come to me. We're here for you! Had you voiced your concern face to face, your issue could've been fixed immediately. Regardless, you'll see most of our reviews are positive and with this heat, we've actually been complimented that we don't have heavy sheets and blankets on our beds.

Our windows are cleaned daily but being in high desert country, the wind blows constantly and even when it's not, the dust seems to find its way through the cracks. True, we are a vintage motel, with tight parking. Most guests don't have the luxury of being able to pay the extra $75-$100 more that our direct competition is charging. I simply couldn't increase my room rates by $20-$25 dollars for continental breakfasts, besides, we simply don't have the space. We like to "share the wealth" with other businesses in our community who prepare a real breakfast.

True, the parking is tight. This property has been a motel since the 60's, when the cars were "land yachts". Cars are much smaller today. There is always plenty of free parking on the street if you needed more room. I regret and am concerned that you aren't able to maneuver your car.

We found this place on Expedia. The fact that they had a suite with 3 normal queen beds for a very reasonable price was what drew us in. The very clean, quiet and well-maintained room is why we will return. The owners were friendly and recommended the best breakfast place.

Thank you Debbie! Our family suite with 3 Queen Beds is an affordable way to travel as a family. We're thinking of making another one in the off season as it's so popular. I was just commenting on another review, there are so many nice places to eat in the area, happy to hear you enjoyed the Cody Experience!

The owner and manager were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean, the shower head and pressure of water were great. The rooms even had flat screen TV's. The rates are great in comparison to all of the other motels in the area. This is a great deal that cannot be beat so it's important to book early.

Thank you for your kind words, I'll be sure to share them with my coworkers. I was SHOCKED to read our competitions review the other day. They are TWICE the price we are with NO Amenities! I was in a gift shop of another property and overheard the lady say their property only supply fridges if you have medication?! We have fridges & coffee, but true, no breakfast. I simply couldn't increase my rates by $20 to give my guests Froot Loops and Bananas. There are some great breakfast spots in town and within walking distance from us.
