The well displayed and described display items, guns, knives, helmets, swords, grenades, old photos, etc and there are many hundreds of them mainly guns that literally have been dug up and most have a narrative explanation of their origin or identity and where appropriate historical significance is truly unique in quantity and quality!
There are guns of the type and serial number range from the Custer battle, US Civil War battles, European WW I and II battles [French, German, US, UK], the American Revolution, Indian Wars, old West, etc etc ! I believe it's worth the time and effort to see the hundreds of items on display during your Cody, WY visit ! (RMC)

Off one of the main streets, but free and very interesting. A self guided tour - reading plaques and information - but so much to see you need to go at your own speed. Interesting for avid gun collectors, people interested in history, or anyone just wanting to learn something new. Very cool to see the hundreds of old guns and other weapons!

We found out about this place from a friend who recently visited Cody. We're very glad she told us to check it out.
The place is owned and operated by a guy who clearly has a love for firearms and history. Admission is free, though donations are accepted, and probably what keeps the lights on.
The owner is very friendly and helpful. He greets visitors and provides informaiton on the displays, things to look for etc.
It's a smaller exhibit, and you can spend anywhere from 30 minutes to a few hours checking it out. Each piece on display is accompanied by a card describing the item, where it was found, and it's condition and a bit of a story. I was particularly fascinated by the civil war items. Guns that are clearly still loaded, guns that exploded while being shot, etc.
The one consideration is it's not something our younger child, a 7 year old was too interested in. The older 2 (teenagers) had fun though.
I would like to say that when we first parked and were going in side we saw a HUGE truck parked outside. It's pictured in the visitor photos on this review. A lady was standing out side and noticed our reaction to it. She was very friendly and invited us to climb on it and check it out - she is the girlfriend of the owner. The boys climbed all over, we snapped a few pics, it was fun. I thought this was very nice of her, because they still drive that truck.
There are some items for sale, some fun, some historic, and some guns. Overall, I would say this is a good place to check out. It's right downtown, and open late (It was open until 9 when we went), so it's good to swing by just before of after dinner downtown.
